Textile & Rug Designer – Maternity Cover

We are looking for an experienced Textile & Rug Designer to join our Stockholm-based design team for a maternity cover of at least six months. The preferred start date is in early December. As Nordic Knots continues to evolve from a rug brand into a comprehensive textile house, you will play an important role in developing our collections across rugs and textiles. Working closely with the Creative Director and our designers, you will translate creative concepts into distinctive, high-quality and production-ready designs. This is a hands-on role for someone with a strong design sensibility, solid technical knowledge and the confidence to take ownership of projects from initial concept through development and final production. The role You will develop original designs across rugs and textiles, ensuring that each product reflects Nordic Knots’ creative direction, quality standards and modern design language. You will balance creative ambition with technical feasibility, commercial considerations and production requirements. Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing original rug and textile designs, patterns, colorways and material concepts.
• Translating creative direction and collection concepts into detailed, production-ready designs.
• Taking ownership of assigned design projects from research and concept development through sampling and final handover.
• Preparing technical specifications, artwork, design files, color references, mood boards and presentation materials.
• Researching developments across interiors, art, fashion, materials and culture to bring relevant perspectives into the design process.
• Exploring yarns, fibers, constructions, colors and textures to create products that are both distinctive and feasible to produce.
• Reviewing samples and prototypes, providing clear feedback and ensuring that the final product meets our design and quality expectations.
• Working closely with the Production team and suppliers to explore techniques, solve technical challenges and maintain the design intent throughout the development process.
• Collaborating with the Buyer & Planner and Production team to ensure designs align with commercial goals, timelines and manufacturing capabilities.
• Contributing to a collaborative, open and ambitious team culture.

Your profile You are an experienced designer with a strong understanding of textiles, rugs, color, pattern and material development. You combine creative instinct with technical precision and are comfortable moving between early-stage ideas and the detailed work required to bring a product into production. You are confident working independently and driving your own projects forward, while also enjoying close collaboration with creative, technical and commercial colleagues. You bring sound judgment, a solutions-oriented mindset and the ability to maintain momentum in a fast-moving environment. We believe you have:

• A strong sensibility for interior design and home products, or relevant professional experience within the category.
• Relevant professional experience in textile, rug, surface or product design.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating a refined sense of color, pattern, material and composition.
• Experience taking designs from concept through sampling and production.
• Good knowledge of textile or rug constructions, materials and manufacturing processes.
• The ability to interpret creative direction and develop it into clear, considered and production-ready solutions.
• Strong skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Experience with Lightroom or other relevant design tools is an advantage.
• Experience preparing accurate technical files and communicating with suppliers or production partners.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage several projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills and professional fluency in English.
• A collaborative, pragmatic and curious approach.

Experience from a premium interior, furniture, textile or fashion brand is considered an advantage. This is a full-time maternity cover for a minimum of six months.
