The work you'll do is more than just a job. This position has a daily schedule of Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. During a snow & ice event where longer plowing coverage is needed, employees are split into an A or B shift, either a 12:00am - 12:00 pm (A shift) or 12:00pm - 12:00am (B shift); an employee may be asked to work 8-hours of work or more depending on the length of the snow event. The temporary appointment is expected to last from approximately November 4, 2026 - April 20, 2027 and works a regular 40 hour per week schedule. (some flexibility with start and end dates) All employees are also on a call-out list for weekends and holiday coverage if/when snow events occur. These call-outs can occur any time of day, night, weekend or holidays. Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour (1) of being called. NOTE: The incumbent will be subject to drug and alcohol testing; an individual not currently in the random pool must pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamine. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work nights; may be required to work outside exposed to the weather elements (both hot and cold) on an intermittent basis. The employee will drive a motor vehicle on the roadway and roadsides. Periodically, the employee will walk on even and uneven sloping ground. The employee must frequently and continually rotate through various body positions (standing, twisting, bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting). The employee will operate machinery and equipment (using vision and hearing) under varying temperatures. The employee may need to infrequently move between 75 and 100 and frequently move 50 pounds by pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying. The employee must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment to protect the head, eyes, hearing, respiration, visibility, and feet from injury. Employee will be exposed to odors when performing required work from herbicides and from products used to perform reconstruction of roadways, such as bituminous or patchwork products/processes .
