Role snapshot
Still studying? Build something people actually use while you do. Playback is a Copenhagen-based music fin-tech startup helping independent artists and labels manage the complicated world of music royalties. We're growing – and we're bringing more of our software development in-house. That's why we're looking for a Student Software Developer who wants a student job where 'student' doesn't mean spending six months fixing formatting issues and doing tasks nobody else wants. You'll become part of the engineering team we're building and contribute to the same product as everyone else. What you'll do
Who are you? You're probably studying computer science, software engineering, IT or something similar. Maybe you've already had another developer student job. Maybe you haven't. What matters more is that you've actually tried building things. You can program and have experience with at least one modern language; understand the fundamentals of web development, APIs and databases; enjoy solving problems independently; and are curious about new technologies. You want to understand the product and business behind the code, are comfortable asking questions and sharing ideas, and would rather build something useful than spend your student job watching from the sidelines. Show us something you've built – for university, for work or simply because you thought it would be fun. Why spend your student hours at Playback? Because you'll join at an unusually interesting point. We're moving more development in-house and building our engineering team. You'll get to see – and contribute to – how a technology team is actually built. You'll work closely with experienced developers, our founders and the people working directly with our customers. You'll see the full journey from 'We have this problem' → 'How could we solve it?' → code → production → customer impact. You'll work with an interesting technical problem space involving music, data, financial flows, integrations and automation. Most importantly, you'll get responsibility that matches what you're capable of – rather than what your job title says you should be capable of. Tech Stack We have customers. We have running systems, and we have a tech stack. Data & Infrastructure: PostgreSQL, Firebase, Supabase, Elest.io, Docker, Docker Compose, Playwright for automated testing. Backend & Pipelines: Python, FastAPI, Panda, Celery, Typescript, Kong API, PostgREST Client Apps: React, Typescript, Vite, AG Grid About Playback Playback is building a simpler way for independent artists and labels to manage royalties. The music industry generates huge amounts of fragmented data from distributors, collecting societies and other royalty sources. We bring it together and help our customers understand, manage and distribute what they've earned. We're a small team based in Copenhagen with big ambitions for where Playback can go next. If you want a student job where you can learn fast, ship real code and be part of building something from an early stage, we'd love to hear from you.
