Structural Engineering Intern Part-time / Full-time | Flexible / Hybrid

mellow designs is looking for a Structural Engineering Intern to join our interdisciplinary design and development team. We work across modular architectural systems, temporary structures, scaffolding-based installations and experimental spatial projects, and we are looking for someone with a structural engineering background who can support the technical development, analysis and testing of these projects. What you will work on You will contribute to real projects that are developed, produced and implemented in physical environments. Your tasks may include:

• Structural analysis and calculations for modular architectural systems
• Wind load analysis for temporary and outdoor structures
• Load calculations for scaffolding-based stages, installations and spatial structures
• Evaluation of structural stability, stiffness and load-bearing capacity
• Analysis of connections, nodes, tubes and structural components
• Supporting the optimisation of material use, dimensions and structural performance
• Contributing to prototype testing, technical documentation and validation
• Supporting the structural development of systems that move from early concept to physical implementation

You may also contribute to the testing and development of experimental spatial structures created through reuse and upcycling strategies, where existing materials and components are given new architectural applications. Who we are looking for You may be studying or recently graduated in:

• Structural Engineering
• Civil Engineering
• Architectural Engineering
• Building Engineering
• or a related field

Experience with structural analysis software is an advantage. Knowledge of tools such as Karamba3D, FEM software, RFEM, SAP2000 or similar tools is welcome. We are especially interested in someone who enjoys working between engineering, architecture, product development and experimentation, rather than only following predefined structural solutions. What you will gain This is an unpaid internship, but the role is designed to provide meaningful professional experience and direct involvement in real projects. You will:

• Work in an interdisciplinary environment together with architects, product designers, business and commercial profiles
• Contribute to products, installations and structures that are intended to be physically produced and implemented
• Gain hands-on experience with structural development from concept and calculation to prototyping and real-life testing
• Work with both permanent and temporary structural applications
• Gain experience with scaffolding-based structures, modular systems and experimental construction methods
• Learn about circular design, material reuse and upcycling strategies in architecture and product development
• Be able to document and use your calculations, analyses and project contributions in your portfolio and future professional applications
• Have flexibility in organising your working hours and responsibilities

The internship can be part-time or full-time, with flexibility for remote work, although occasional collaboration with the team in Copenhagen is very welcome.
