What you'll do

The opportunity The Ads Infrastructure team at Unity builds and operates the core distributed systems behind Unity Ads, one of the largest real-time advertising platforms in the world. Our infrastructure is the foundation for segmentation, optimization, bidding, and analytics at global scale. Most of this runs on K2, our Kubernetes platform for internet-facing services, ML, and large-scale workloads. K2 runs on GKE and EKS today. We are building it to run consistently across public cloud and on-premises environments, so teams deploy the same way wherever their workloads run. We are looking for a Staff Engineer to lead the design and build of this hybrid container platform. What you'll be doing - Lead the architecture of our Kubernetes platform across GCP, AWS and on-premises environments. - Design and build Kubernetes on bare metal and virtualized infrastructure, covering cluster provisioning, operating system, networking, storage and lifecycle management. - Own the connectivity between environments: tunnels, interconnects, traffic management and service discovery. - Prepare the platform for AI workloads, including batch jobs and model serving on CPU and GPU. - Own and operate platform services with the engineering teams, including on-call and debugging complex issues end to end. - Improve observability, resiliency and automation across the platform. - Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through design reviews, code reviews and engineering best practices. - Advise leadership on platform direction, including where workloads should run and long-term investment. What we're looking for - 7 or more years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production - Hands-on Kubernetes expertise, including building, upgrading and operating production clusters and their control planes - Experience with managed Kubernetes in GCP, AWS or Azure - Strong networking fundamentals: load balancing, routing, DNS, VPN and interconnects, and debugging network issues across environments - Programming experience for infrastructure automation and backend services - Experience with infrastructure as code and GitOps tools such as Terraform and ArgoCD You might also have - On-premises experience: running Kubernetes on bare metal, data center operations or hardware provisioning. This is a strong plus. - Experience with Talos Linux, KubeVirt, Cluster API, OpenStack or similar - Experience running GPU workloads on Kubernetes for training or inference - Experience with hybrid or multi-cloud architectures, including bursting to the cloud - Experience operating Kafka, Flink, Valkey or distributed storage systems at scale - Domain knowledge of online advertising and adtech systems Base Salary Range: We determine the base salary range for this role based on your primary work location: Zone A: 916,100 - 1,145,100 DKK gross anual This range reflects the anticipated base salary for this position. Beyond base salary, this role may be eligible for equity awards and participation in our company incentive plans (such as annual discretionary bonuses or sales commissions). The final offer amount will depend on several factors, including geographic location and the candidate’s relevant experience, professional background, and skill set.
