Software Test Development Engineer This is a hands-on software engineering role within an R&D environment, focused on building, maintaining and adapting the software infrastructure required to communicate with and control instrumentation for optical component testing. Your work will support early-stage R&D testing and the development of reliable, automated test solutions for use throughout component development and manufacturing. In the role, you will work closely with on-site teams across Chip Design, Wafer Fabrication, Process Engineering, Operations, Quality & Reliability, Verification, and Project Management.   • Contribute to the design and planning of new test setups, with a focus on software for component control, characterisation, and verification.
  • Develop and maintain software used to control instruments and devices, collect measurements, and process test data.
  • Support the development and validation of algorithms that automate component control and characterisation activities
  • Help ensure test processes are robust, reliable, and suitable for use during both development and manufacturing.
  • Review, improve, and support the formal release of test software updates in response to: Changes to product or test specifications Changes to software and/or algorithm requirements Bug fixes Deployment of test solutions to new sites Test-time reduction initiatives
  • Analyse measurement data to verify test quality and assist with troubleshooting and root-cause investigations.
  • Work with engineering, verification, and manufacturing colleagues during new product development and the transition into production.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation for test software, algorithms, and related projects.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing with other team members on topics such as software development practices, library reuse, and optical component characteristics.

About You

  • An MSc or PhD in Software Engineering, Optoelectronics, Electronics, Engineering Physics, or a related discipline Up to five years [NR1] of relevant professional experience.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming, ideally using C#, C++, or Java.
  • Experience with test systems, scientific equipment, or similar technical or lab/production environments.
  • Experience with Python or MATLAB.
  • Experience with data analysis, modelling, simulation, algorithm development, or measurement processing would be an advantage.
  • Experience or knowledge of semiconductor/optoelectronic devices, electronics, industrial automation, or manufacturing test environments [NR2] .
  • Comfortable collaborating with colleagues from different technical disciplines and sharing knowledge within a team.
