What you'll do

About us Worldwide AIS Network is a Copenhagen company building a global network of maritime sensors. Ships broadcast their identity, position, course and speed over AIS radio. Our receivers on coastlines around the world collect those messages and send them to our platform in real time. There they become a verified feed of vessel movements for our data customers. We build our own hardware and software. Every message is cryptographically verified at the sensor, so customers can trust where it came from. The same sensors detect GNSS jamming and spoofing as it happens. Many of our stations are hosted by individuals and companies around the world who are rewarded for the coverage they provide. The assignment We’re looking for a senior engineer to take technical responsibility for the platform on a freelance basis. It’s hands-on work across the whole stack, on live systems from the first week.

  • Run and improve the platform that receives, stores and delivers vessel data to customers
  • Harden our cloud servers and databases: access control, keys, backups, firewalls and monitoring
  • Maintain the embedded Linux software on our sensors, including image builds and over-the-air updates
  • Support customers who take our data through streaming feeds
  • Write clear operating and recovery documentation
  • Review work from other contract developers when needed

What you bring

  • Several years running production systems, ideally as the senior or only engineer
  • Strong Linux operations and security
  • Go and TypeScript, with Next.js on the web side
  • PostgreSQL in production, including performance tuning and recovery
  • Embedded Linux on devices in the field, with over-the-air updates
  • Comfort reading and fixing C++
  • Clear writing, and the ability to explain technical risk in plain words

Nice to have

  • Software-defined radio, AIS or GNSS
  • Real-time data streaming
  • EVM smart contracts
  • A maritime or defence background

Terms

  • Freelance assignment, invoiced through your own company
  • Three months to start, with the option to extend
  • Around 2 to 3 days a week. You plan your own time, with regular on-site days in Copenhagen
  • Other clients are welcome
  • English is our working language
  • Start in December

How to apply Send your CV, day rate and availability to owen@worldwideais.com. Add a few lines on the hardest production problem you’ve solved and what you changed afterwards.
