Software Engineer (Java)

Software Engineer (Java), AI Search Engine Core | Relocation to Norway welcomed Most engineers in AI are building on top of someone else’s infrastructure, whereas this role is about building the infrastructure itself. Our client makes the search and retrieval engine underneath production AI at some of the world’s best-known consumer platforms and AI companies. It ranks billions of documents with machine-learned models and answers in milliseconds, every time. Why this one is different

• Technology proven over 20+ years at internet scale, originally powering search for one of the defining web companies of its era
• Now an independent, venture-backed company of around 60 people at the centre of the AI infrastructure market
• Customers include global consumer platforms and leading AI companies
• Your work ships into products used by millions of people every day

What you’ll do

• Build the core of the engine: the Java runtime, container and APIs every application runs through
• Solve performance, concurrency and correctness problems where milliseconds genuinely matter
• Work alongside engineers who have been solving search at scale for longer than most of the market has existed

What you bring

• Strong Java, with a deep understanding of performance and the JVM
• Experience building distributed systems or performance-critical backend services
• Solid computer science fundamentals
• C++ exposure is a plus

The move

• Permanent, on-site role in Norway with a relocation package
• No visa process for EU/EEA passport holders
• Engineers have already relocated successfully from Germany and across Europe
• Serious engineering, a real work-life balance, and mountains and fjords on your doorstep
