Role snapshot
Company Description Lizard Photonics is a deep-tech start-up spun out of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). We are developing an ultra-low-power, highly efficient silicon photonics platform for AI data centers, photonic computing, and quantum technologies. Our work spans photonic device design, nanofabrication, NEMS, high-speed electro-optic characterization, and electronic-photonic integration. Based in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark, we combine advanced research with a clear focus on building scalable, commercially relevant technology. With newly secured funding, we are expanding our core team and looking for people who want to take ownership, solve difficult engineering problems, and help shape the company as it grows. Do you enjoy moving between simulations, a probe station, and a high-speed optical link? At Lizard Photonics, you will connect photonic device physics with RF electronics, drivers, packaging, and laboratory measurements to help commercialize our technology. What you will do • Design and model silicon-photonic devices, including waveguides, couplers, resonators, modulators, phase shifters, photonic-crystal cavities and photodetectors. • Use Ansys Lumerical, COMSOL Multiphysics, or similar tools for device modeling and simulation. • Co-design electronic-photonic interfaces for drivers, amplifiers, electrodes, transmission lines, PCBs, interposers, packages and control electronics. • Build and improve optical, electrical, RF and electro-optic measurement setups at wafer, chip, package and link level. • Characterize devices and high-speed links using I-V and C-V measurements, S-parameters, EO/OE response, eye diagrams, bit-error ratio, NRZ/PAM4, jitter and optical modulation amplitude. • Work with link budgets, drivers, TIAs, and practical SerDes/DSP concepts such as pre-emphasis, equalization, and clock recovery. • Automate measurements using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, VISA/SCPI or similar tools. • Compare measurements with simulations and lead structured root-cause analysis. What you bring • A master’s degree or PhD in photonics, optical engineering, electrical engineering, applied physics, semiconductor engineering, communications engineering or a related field. A bachelor’s degree with strong industry experience is also welcome. • Strong expertise in at least one of these areas: photonic device design, high-speed electro-optic characterization, or RF/electronic-photonic integration. • Practical experience with COMSOL Multiphysics, Ansys Lumerical, or comparable software. • A sound understanding of guided-wave optics and active photonic-device physics. • Hands-on experience with optical or high-speed electrical laboratory setups. • Working knowledge of RF fundamentals, drivers, SerDes/DSP concepts, and common link metrics. • Experience with Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools. Experience with high-speed modulators, photodetectors, resonant devices, photonic crystals, integrated optomechanics, PDKs, foundry tape-outs, VNAs, high-speed oscilloscopes, BERTs, RF probes, ADS, Cadence, SPICE, NRZ/PAM4, or packaging would be an advantage. Why join us? You will join the core team at an early stage and work across the full path from device concept to high-speed demonstration. You will help build the laboratory and integration capabilities that will shape our future products, with opportunities to grow and potentially lead a team as the company expands. Start date by mutual agreement. Salary based on experience. Apply with your CV and a short note describing your motivation and the photonic design, integration, or high-speed measurement work you are most proud of: https://www.lizardphotonics.com/job-application
