We are expanding our customer engagement and looking for Senior VIL Engineers who will develop, operate, maintain, and continuously improve advanced VIL, Vehicle-in-the-Loop, test environments. The assignment supports multiple vehicle projects and hardware architectures and combines hands-on rig operations, systematic fault tracing, test-environment development, and automation using CAPL and Python. Responsibilities:

  • Developing and maintaining VIL test environments according to lifecycle management processes.
  • Developing automated solutions for VIL environments using Python and CAPL.
  • Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting advanced automotive test rigs.
  • Integrating and maintaining hardware, software, networks, embedded systems, and automation solutions.
  • Performing systematic fault tracing and root-cause analysis across electrical, mechanical, network, embedded-software, and test-system domains.
  • Handling support tickets, incident tickets, intake requests, and improvement proposals.
  • Improving rig stability, monitoring, automation, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Working with different vehicle platforms, architectures, hardware configurations, and mainly the Vector toolchain.
  • Contributing technical feedback to documentation and electrical schematics.
  • Collaborating closely with Volvo Cars core teams, stakeholders, Product Owners, and technical leadership.
  • Taking ownership of assigned project deliveries and reporting status and progress continuously.
  • Participating in daily stand-ups, sprint activities, technical reviews, and regular team demonstrations

Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Solid experience in automotive test environments, embedded systems, rig operations, test development, or complete-vehicle-level testing.
  • Strong experience in fault tracing, root-cause analysis, and hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Experience in rig maintenance, operations, and continuous improvement.
  • Good understanding of vehicle communication architecture.
  • Deep understanding of CAN, LIN, and Ethernet communication protocols.
  • Experience with diagnostic communication protocols.
  • Experience with Vector CANoe and CANalyzer and other Vector systems.
  • Experience with Wireshark and automotive communication analysis.
  • Programming or scripting experience in Python and CAPL.
  • Experience with test-environment automation frameworks.
  • Understanding of CI/CD concepts and development workflows.
  • Experience working with source code, documentation, and work items in Azure DevOps.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with customer stakeholders and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong technical curiosity, a structured troubleshooting approach, and a delivery-oriented mindset.
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken.
  • B driving license.

Meritorious:

  • Previous experience from VIL or other advanced automotive rig environments.
  • Experience with large-scale automotive test development and complete-level testing.
  • Knowledge of Lifecycle Management, LCM, for test environments.
  • Experience with DLT, DSA, or PD.
  • Experience across multiple vehicle platforms, architectures, or hardware configurations.
  • Background or strong interest in mechatronics, robotics, or advanced automation.
