Senior Python Backend Engineer

Senior Python Engineer | Stockholm Location: Stockholm, Sweden | Hybrid Type: Permanent, full-time Salary: Competitive, depending on experience About the company A well-funded tech startup in Stockholm, building software that helps businesses work smarter with their data. The founders have scaled products at some of the Nordics’ best-known tech companies, and they’re now building a product team that wants ownership, not just tickets. The team is small, so your work will be visible and your voice will carry weight. About the role You’ll join a small engineering team as a senior backend engineer, working on the systems at the core of the product. You’ll own features end to end, from the first design conversation to deployment and monitoring in production, and work day to day with backend, data and ML engineers. What you’ll do

• Design, build and scale APIs and services that run in production
• Build and maintain data pipelines that handle large volumes of data
• Take features from design through to deployment, monitoring and iteration
• Integrate third-party APIs and real-time data sources
• Help bring AI-driven features into the product, from prototype to production
• Improve performance, reliability and observability across the platform
• Take part in code reviews and architecture discussions, and share knowledge across the team

• Python frameworks and libraries: FastAPI, Django, Flask, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, Celery, asyncio
• Cloud and infrastructure: AWS/GCP/Azure (Lambda, RDS, S3, SQS/SNS), Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines
• Data and big data: Kafka, Spark, Airflow, dbt, Snowflake or BigQuery, PostgreSQL, Redis
• AI and ML: LLM integrations (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source models), RAG pipelines, vector databases, LangChain or LlamaIndex, PyTorch, MLOps tooling
• Integrations: REST, GraphQL, gRPC, MQTT and event-driven architectures

About you

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with Python as a main language
• You’ve shipped and maintained production systems independently
• You like digging into the “why” behind a problem, not only the “how”
• You’re comfortable in a small team and happy to take ownership
• You write clean, tested, maintainable code and care about reliability
• You communicate clearly with engineers, data teams and non-technical colleagues

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale data processing or streaming systems
• Hands-on experience building with LLMs, or putting ML models into production
• Experience with event-driven or IoT-style architectures
• Experience in a startup or scale-up
• Front-end capabilities - React & TypeScript
• Familiarity with another typed backend language
