CMC provides expert engineering solutions internationally across Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Electronics, Software and other advanced engineering disciplines. Established in 2016, our mission is to be the most service-driven consulting business in global STEM markets, delivering specialist engineering expertise to some of the world's leading technology organisations. Join Our Latest Project We are seeking an experienced Senior Measurement & Test Equipment Engineer to take ownership of instrumentation, measurement systems and test solution development supporting vehicle and component verification activities. This is not a conventional test execution role. The successful consultant will be responsible for defining how components and systems should be measured, selecting and configuring instrumentation, developing bespoke test setups and ensuring technically credible data is delivered to engineering stakeholders. The assignment will involve working across laboratory environments and complete vehicle applications, supporting the development of measurement methods, instrumentation strategies and test equipment solutions used throughout the product development process. The consultant will collaborate closely with Test Engineers and Product Development teams, providing expertise in sensor technology, data acquisition, calibration and test methodology whilst driving complex investigations from concept through to verified results. What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience within measurement, instrumentation, test systems or physical testing environments.
  • Hands-on experience selecting, installing, configuring and troubleshooting sensors, transducers, DAQ and measurement systems.
  • Strong understanding of physical measurement including pressure, temperature, flow and electrical current measurement.
  • Experience developing or modifying test methods, instrumentation layouts, test rigs, fixtures or laboratory setups.
  • Knowledge of signal acquisition, conditioning, measurement channels and data logging.
  • Experience commissioning and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Understanding of calibration, traceability, measurement uncertainty, repeatability and equipment quality management.
  • Ability to independently define test approaches from unclear engineering requirements and lead activities through to successful delivery.
  • Experience supporting engineers with test feasibility, instrumentation selection and measurement methodology.
  • Strong practical engineering background involving physical components, equipment and hardware-based testing.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with HBK/HBM, Catman, QuantumX, Somat, National Instruments, LabVIEW or equivalent DAQ platforms.
  • Automotive, commercial vehicle, aerospace, off-highway, industrial machinery or physical test laboratory experience.
  • Knowledge of NVH, vibration, acoustics, microphones and accelerometer-based measurement systems.
  • Experience designing fixtures, mock-ups, test benches and bespoke instrumentation solutions.
  • CATIA or similar 3D CAD experience.
  • Experience with prototyping, technical drawings and 3D printing.
  • Exposure to microcontrollers, embedded systems, PLCs, controls, scripting or test automation.
  • Experience leading technical work packages and mentoring or advising engineering teams.
  • Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Instrumentation Engineering background.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define measurement concepts and testing strategies for components, systems and engineering investigations.
  • Select and configure sensors, transducers and data acquisition equipment.
  • Design, modify and commission test rigs, fixtures and instrumentation setups.
  • Perform instrumentation activities on both laboratory rigs and complete vehicle applications.
  • Develop and improve testing methods to ensure safe, repeatable and meaningful results.
  • Manage calibration activities, equipment status and measurement traceability.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, signal quality and integration issues.
  • Provide technical guidance on measurement techniques, sensor positioning and test feasibility.
  • Work closely with senior engineering stakeholders to deliver high-quality technical outcomes.
