Senior Java Software Engineer

Senior Java Developer Location: Stockholm, Sweden (Hybrid) Employment Type: Permanent About the Opportunity: We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to join a highly skilled engineering team building secure, business-critical digital services used by organisations across Sweden. This is an opportunity to work on complex systems where security, reliability, performance, and scalability are fundamental requirements. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and modernising enterprise-grade applications whilst collaborating closely with architects, developers, product teams, and stakeholders. The environment combines modern engineering practices with a strong focus on quality, security, and long-term maintainability. The role draws on technologies and requirements including Java Spring, identity and authentication standards, public-sector style compliance requirements, and cloud-native development. Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Develop scalable, secure, and resilient microservices architectures.
• Contribute to system design, technical roadmaps, and architectural decisions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Improve performance, maintainability, and operational stability of existing platforms.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and mentoring of other developers.
• Support CI/CD practices, automated testing, and modern DevOps workflows.
• Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with Java.
• Strong experience with:
• Java 17+ (or later versions)
• Spring Boot
• REST APIs
• Microservices architecture
• Relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar)
• Git and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience working with cloud-native environments, containers, and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and design patterns.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Swedish speaking

Highly Desirable Experience: One or more of the following would be advantageous:

• Security-focused systems development.
• Identity and access management solutions.
• Authentication technologies such as SAML, OIDC, OAuth2, or PKI.
• Public sector, regulated industries, banking, or other compliance-driven environments.
• Automated testing frameworks and quality engineering practices.
• Experience building highly available and mission-critical platforms. The environment includes technologies such as SAML, OIDC, PKI, eIDAS-related standards, and secure identity services.
