What you'll do

Senior Human Resources Business Partner, Denmark Location and reporting: Copenhagen · Reports to the CHRO, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Country Manager, Denmark Build HR in Denmark from the ground up Max Matthiessen is growing in Denmark and is looking for an experienced Senior HR Business Partner to build and develop the local HR function. This is an opportunity to shape the people agenda, establish practical HR ways of working and make a visible difference to leaders and employees as the business grows. You will need to roll up your sleeves, move between strategic and operational work, and build strong relationships with stakeholders at every level. Based in Copenhagen, you will work closely with the Danish Country Manager and leadership team while reporting directly to the CHRO based in Stockholm. You will be part of the HR team in Stockholm, working together to develop scalable people solutions and ensure they are adapted to Danish requirements and implemented successfully in the local organisation. What you will do

  • Be a true business partner. Work side by side with the Country Manager and leadership team as a trusted sparring partner. Understand the business, challenge and advise with confidence, and translate business priorities into HR initiatives that make a real difference. Bring local perspectives into the wider HR team to improve what we build together
  • Move between strategy and execution. This is a role for someone who is ready to roll up their sleeves. One day you shape the people agenda with senior leaders, the next you handle day-to-day HR matters yourself. You are comfortable switching between the two, and you see both as part of the job
  • Establish an effective HR function in Denmark. Work with the HR team in Stockholm to develop scalable approaches, policies, work flows and practices, adapt them to Danish conditions and ensure they are embedded as the organisation grows
  • Make AI part of how we work. Explore and apply AI tools in HR, for example to draft role profiles and communication, analyse people data, support managers and streamline recurring work flows. You will help set the standard for how modern HR works in Denmark and share what you learn with the HR team in Stockholm
  • Own performance management. Implement a clear, fair and practical performance management cycle and support managers in setting expectations, giving feedback and developing employees
  • Support recruitment and onboarding. Partner with managers to define requirements, develop role profiles, run structured recruitment and ensure new colleagues get a strong start
  • Develop leaders. Strengthen leadership capability through coaching, development initiatives and ongoing sparring with managers
  • Nurture culture. Translate Max Matthiessen's culture and values into the Danish context, and help build an engaged, high-performing workplace as we grow
  • Provide Danish employment law guidance. Advise on employment contracts, terms, absence and employee relations, involving external legal counsel when appropriate

Who you are

  • You are a true business partner. You have solid experience as an HR Business Partner in a growing and/or international organisation, bring strong business acumen and are seen as a credible sparring partner by senior leaders. You challenge, advise and take a stand
  • You are an excellent stakeholder manager. You build trust and credibility with senior stakeholders, navigate different interests and expectations, influence without formal authority, and communicate clearly and constructively across levels, functions and borders
  • You are both strategic and hands-on. You can think big and set direction, but you are equally comfortable rolling up your sleeves and taking responsibility for day-to-day HR matters. You follow through on implementation and enjoy building as much as planning
  • You are curious about AI and eager to use it. You are improvement-oriented and motivated to explore new ways of working. You see how AI can change HR, from recruitment and performance management to people analytics and everyday administration, and you want to put it into practice. Experience using AI tools is a clear advantage
  • You have at least 10 years of relevant HR experience and a relevant master's degree
  • You have a proven track record of building or significantly developing HR functions and enjoy establishing structures and work flows from the ground up
  • You have a solid understanding of Danish employment law and practice, including collective agreements and the Danish labour market model
  • You are confident in coaching managers and work collaboratively with colleagues and teams
  • You thrive when working independently while staying closely connected to colleagues and teams across borders
  • You are fluent in Danish and English; Swedish or another Scandinavian language is an advantage

Why join Max Matthiessen

  • A genuine opportunity to build and shape the HR function in Denmark, with significant ownership and visible impact from day one
  • Direct access to the CHRO and Danish Country Manager, with the opportunity to influence how the people agenda supports business growth
  • Close collaboration and support from an established HR team in Stockholm
  • The chance to develop practical, scalable people solutions in an important growth market for Max Matthiessen
