What you'll do

Location City Espoo Location Region Location Country Finland Role also available in Tampere, Finland About u-blox u-blox is a global leader in automotive, industrial, and consumer markets, driving innovation through our cutting-edge positioning and short-range communication technologies. We are the pioneers behind high-precision technologies, providing smart and reliable solutions that enable people, vehicles, and machines to determine their precise position and communicate wirelessly. With headquarters in Thalwil, Switzerland, and offices across Europe, Asia, and the USA, we are making a global impact. Job Description Join a team shaping one of the world's most widely used technologies. GNSS powers billions of devices every day and continues to evolve through breakthroughs in accuracy, robustness, and efficiency. At u-blox, our team develops the GNSS/INS positioning engine that powers products used around the world. By combining embedded software development and GNSS algorithm engineering, this role offers a unique opportunity to take ideas and innovations from concept all the way to production. Working in a fast-paced, international environment, you will collaborate across agile teams, learn from some of the industry's most experienced engineers, and contribute to a culture built on teamwork, open communication, accountability, and shared success. You are a collaborative Senior GNSS/INS Navigation Engineer who enjoys solving complex positioning and navigation challenges as part of a high-performing R&D team. You combine deep technical expertise in GNSS positioning, inertial navigation, estimation theory, and multi-sensor fusion algorithms with strong software engineering skills, enabling you to transform advanced algorithms into robust, production-ready solutions. You are passionate about developing robust navigation solutions that continue to operate reliably in degraded, denied, or contested positioning environments through advanced sensor fusion and estimation techniques. You work effectively across disciplines, collaborating with system engineers, software developers, verification engineers, and product teams to deliver world-class positioning performance. You communicate complex technical concepts clearly, contribute actively to technical discussions, and provide guidance to less experienced engineers. Equally comfortable researching new concepts and delivering commercial products, you take ownership of the complete algorithm development lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through implementation, verification, optimization, and product release. You are driven by data, embrace rigorous testing and validation, and continuously seek opportunities to improve accuracy, robustness, and efficiency. You thrive in a technically demanding environment, quickly identify key challenges in complex systems, and make sound engineering decisions based on both theory and practical constraints. With a passion for innovation and excellence, you help strengthen u-blox's leadership in GNSS, sensor fusion, and positioning technologies. In addition, as a technical leader and line manager, you contribute to building a high-performing engineering organization by developing talent, strengthening competencies, and supporting the long-term growth of your team. Your Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and enhance core GNSS, navigation, and multi-sensor fusion algorithms for embedded positioning products.
  • Design and develop algorithms that enhance positioning robustness, integrity, and resilience in challenging operating environments, including degraded GNSS conditions and electromagnetic interference.
  • Line-manage a team of approximately five engineers, supporting their professional development, performance, engagement, and technical growth.
  • Contribute across the full development lifecycle, from requirements and feature definition to implementation, validation, and release.
  • Implement algorithm concepts in production-quality software using C/C++.
  • Analyse navigation performance and investigate challenging real-world operating scenarios.
  • Develop and maintain automated test solutions using Python to ensure product quality and efficient verification.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for functional blocks, features, and development activities.
  • Investigate software defects and customer-reported issues, developing fixes and workarounds where needed.
  • Collaborate on work planning and technical discussions.
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps, innovation activities and patent generation
