Senior Game Programmer (Multiplayer)

From our home in central Copenhagen, more than 60 wonderful humans are united by a simple mission: to make everyone laugh. We’re building something unannounced, exciting, thoroughly goofy and built to be played together online. We’re now looking for a Senior Game Programmer (Multiplayer) to implement the tech that makes it all work. This new project is living in a different world from our WHAT THE? games, built by a growing team with a playbook of its own. Here’s What You’ll Do Day To Day

• Build and iterate on smooth, low-latency online play on top of an existing game tech infrastructure, in close collaboration with designers, artists, and other programmers
• Work hands-on in Unity using the multiplayer framework Coherence
• Focus on multiplayer as your technical domain, working within the patterns and architecture already in place, and doing it in a way that keeps the codebase easy for others to build on
• Contribute to end-to-end user-facing feature development
• Share knowledge and raise the multiplayer bar across the studio over time

Must-haves

• You’ve worked on at least one online multiplayer game (ideally shipped)
• You have a strong understanding of multiplayer networking concepts (e.g. peer-to-peer, client/host models, synchronisation, lag compensation), and you can explain them clearly to non-experts
• You understand the tradeoffs between peer-to-peer and server-authoritative approaches (bandwidth, latency, security, scalability), and can choose the right model for the problem
• You enjoy mentoring, knowledge-sharing, and helping others level up
• You’re willing to work on macOS and get comfortable with Apple-related constraints/tech because you’ll be working in the Apple ecosystem

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with multiplayer game design
• Experience working on complex projects in a team of 20-30 people

• We don't offer relocation support or visa sponsorship for this role.
• We work a 37-hour work week with flexible hours.
• We work on-site at our cozy office in central Copenhagen.
