Senior Data Engineer – Microsoft Fabric & Azure About the Role We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer with strong expertise in Microsoft Fabric and Azure to design and deliver scalable, high-quality data solutions. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, requiring the ability to set engineering standards, mentor colleagues and work closely with stakeholders and end users to translate business needs into effective data solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and optimise data pipelines and data solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Azure data services.
  • Provide technical leadership through solution design, code reviews, engineering standards and mentoring other engineers.
  • Develop and maintain robust ETL/ELT processes, data models and data quality frameworks.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements, manage expectations and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Engage directly with end users to understand requirements, validate solutions, support UAT and drive adoption of new data products.
  • Communicate technical concepts, delivery progress, risks and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Champion best practices across data governance, security, performance, CI/CD and platform optimisation.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a Senior Data Engineer or equivalent role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Azure data services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage and Azure SQL.
  • Strong SQL and Python/PySpark skills, with experience building and optimising data pipelines.
  • Demonstrable technical leadership, including mentoring, design reviews and influencing engineering standards.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills, with experience managing requirements, expectations and competing priorities.
  • Evidence of direct end-user engagement, including requirements gathering, feedback management, UAT and solution adoption.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and collaboration skills.

What We’re Looking For A technically strong data engineer who can take ownership of complex engineering challenges, influence technical direction and build trusted relationships with stakeholders and end users. You will combine hands-on delivery with the ability to guide others and ensure data solutions deliver measurable business value.
