Senior Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Backend Infrastructure Engineer to build and operate critical backend infrastructure for service discovery, traffic management, and service-to-service authentication in a large-scale production environment. Location: Stockholm Duration - 9-10 months + extensions Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend infrastructure and distributed systems using Java.
• Work with gRPC, Kubernetes/GKE, service discovery, load balancing, and failure handling.
• Implement traffic-management capabilities including zone-aware routing, regional failover, and capacity-aware spillover.
• Improve observability, metrics, troubleshooting, and production reliability.
• Plan and execute large-scale migrations with safe validation and rollback strategies.
• Lead design reviews and contribute to architectural decisions.

Key Requirements

• 5+ years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience.
• Strong Java experience building and operating production services/shared libraries.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems.
• Production experience with GCP and Kubernetes/GKE.
• Hands-on gRPC and Kubernetes experience.
• Strong debugging and performance optimisation skills.
• Experience safely rolling out infrastructure changes across multiple services/teams.
• Strong English communication skills.
