Senior AI Engineer (Developer Experience)

Senior Software Engineer | AI & Developer Experience Location: Oslo, Norway Join a global technology organisation developing software platforms used by some of the world's largest energy companies. With significant investment being made into engineering capability in Oslo, this is an opportunity to help shape the future of a modern software organisation as it scales its developer experience and AI engineering capabilities. What you'll be building You'll be joining a newly established Developer Experience function with a mandate to improve how software is built across the organisation. Working at the intersection of platform engineering, AI tooling and software development, you'll define the standards, workflows and tooling that enable engineers, and increasingly AI agents, to deliver software faster, safer and with greater consistency. As one of the early technical hires in the team, you'll have a significant influence on engineering practices, tooling strategy and the adoption of AI across the development lifecycle. What you'll be responsible for

• Define engineering standards across development teams, including local build processes, testing, code quality, documentation and development environment setup
• Create automated assessment frameworks that measure repository health, engineering standards compliance and developer productivity
• Work directly within existing codebases to improve engineering practices and establish reusable reference implementations
• Design and introduce standards that make repositories easier for both engineers and AI agents to understand and operate within
• Integrate developer tooling with source control, issue tracking, collaboration platforms and AI-enabled workflows
• Explore and implement Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations and other emerging developer productivity technologies
• Collaborate closely with Platform Engineering and DevOps teams to ensure a seamless experience from local development through to deployment and operations
• Contribute to engineering strategy, tooling decisions and the growth of the wider Developer Experience function
• Champion AI adoption across engineering teams, helping developers make effective use of agent-based tooling and modern AI-assisted development practices

What we're looking for

• Strong commercial experience as a senior, staff or principal software engineer
• Deep knowledge of build systems, test automation and modern software development environments
• Hands-on experience implementing and scaling developer tooling, internal platforms or engineering productivity initiatives
• Practical exposure to AI-assisted software development, coding agents and agentic engineering workflows
• Experience driving technical change and influencing engineering standards across multiple teams
• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and engineering guidance
• A track record of delivering measurable improvements to engineering productivity and software quality
• The ability to operate independently in a fast-moving environment with a high degree of ownership
