What you'll do

Reliable renewable energy assets depend on more than generation capacity. Their control, communication and monitoring systems need to work together accurately from commissioning through long-term operation. At SUNOTEC, we deliver integrated renewable energy infrastructure across power generation, battery energy storage, grid infrastructure and lifecycle services. With more than 680 projects and over 15 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, our teams work across multiple European markets to bring complex energy assets from engineering through construction and operation. As our project portfolio in the Nordics continues to grow, we're looking for a SCADA Engineer to support the delivery of utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the region. Why this role matters: SCADA sits at the intersection of plant equipment, control systems, communication networks and the grid. Getting that integration right directly affects whether a renewable energy asset can be commissioned successfully, monitored reliably and operated as intended. As a SCADA Engineer, you'll take technical ownership of SCADA integration across our Nordic projects, working from system architecture and configuration through testing, commissioning and troubleshooting. You'll collaborate closely with engineering, grid compliance, commissioning and operations teams, as well as external stakeholders, to make sure plant systems communicate correctly, technical requirements are met and reliable operational data is available throughout the project lifecycle. Where you'll make an impact:

  • Design and implement SCADA architectures for utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects, ensuring plant equipment, control systems and monitoring platforms operate as one integrated system;
  • Own SCADA integration across plant components and communication networks, coordinating interfaces between field devices, plant controllers and central monitoring systems;
  • Configure and validate industrial communication architectures, ensuring reliable data exchange and system performance across the plant;
  • Lead SCADA-related testing, commissioning and troubleshooting, identifying and resolving communication and control issues before they affect project energisation and handover;
  • Support the integration of plant control and monitoring systems with grid operators and external stakeholders, ensuring technical and interface requirements are correctly implemented;
  • Ensure reliable data acquisition, monitoring and reporting from construction and commissioning through commercial operation;
  • Work alongside engineering, grid compliance, commissioning and operations specialists to resolve technical interfaces and keep project delivery progressing;
  • Produce and maintain the technical documentation required for successful handover, including commissioning reports, as-built documentation and operational procedures;
  • Investigate system performance issues through structured root cause analysis, supporting their resolution during both commissioning and operation;
  • Contribute to the continuous development of SUNOTEC's approach to SCADA architecture, industrial cybersecurity and plant monitoring across future projects.

You'll thrive in this role if you:

  • Have hands-on SCADA experience within renewable energy projects – this is essential for the role;
  • Understand industrial control systems, data acquisition, plant monitoring and the communication architecture connecting these systems;
  • Have practical experience across the SCADA lifecycle, including system architecture, integration, configuration, testing and commissioning;
  • Are comfortable troubleshooting communication and control issues in live project environments, working systematically from symptoms to root cause;
  • Have solid practical knowledge of industrial communication protocols, particularly Modbus TCP/IP and Modbus RTU, as well as Ethernet-based networks and related networking concepts;
  • Have worked with plant control systems, grid interfaces and utility-scale renewable energy assets;
  • Can work effectively across engineering, commissioning, grid and operations teams, translating technical issues clearly for different stakeholders;
  • Are comfortable working in English, both written and spoken, as you'll collaborate with colleagues, partners and stakeholders across the Nordic region.

It would be an advantage if you also have:

  • Direct SCADA experience on utility-scale Solar PV and/or BESS projects;
  • Experience with Power Plant Controllers (PPC) and hybrid plant control concepts;
  • Experience delivering grid-connected renewable energy projects through commissioning and commercial operation;
  • Familiarity with relevant IEC standards and industrial communication frameworks;
  • Practical understanding of cybersecurity principles for industrial control and SCADA systems.

Why you'll enjoy working here: You'll work directly on utility-scale renewable energy assets where your technical decisions have a visible impact on commissioning, plant performance and long-term operation. The role gives you exposure to the full project lifecycle and close collaboration with specialists across engineering, grid compliance, commissioning and operations. As our Nordic portfolio develops, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to how SCADA architectures, technical standards and monitoring solutions are applied across future projects. In addition, you'll benefit from:

  • A remuneration package reflecting the scope of the role and your experience;
  • Full-time employment contract;
  • Medical insurance;
  • Pension plan with company matching upon completion of the probation period;
  • Hybrid working opportunities;
  • The opportunity to work with colleagues and project teams across multiple European markets.

If you'd like to work on the control and monitoring systems behind large-scale renewable energy infrastructure, we'd like to hear from you. Send us your CV in English and join the team delivering Solar PV and BESS projects across the Nordic region. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. Your documents and personal data will be treated as confidential and protected in accordance with applicable data protection legislation and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2016/679.
