OT SCADA Engineer, Wind Energy
We are looking for an experienced OT SCADA Engineer to strengthen engineering and operational capabilities around wind-farm SCADA systems and associated OT data flows within the energy sector.
The role combines hands-on operational support, lifecycle engineering and continuous improvement of existing wind-farm and fleet-level SCADA systems, industrial edge devices and operational data pipelines. It also includes SCADA engineering and OT system integration for new wind farms. The balance between these responsibilities depends on assigned priorities. The role may in the future be subject to security clearance, and candidates must be able to meet the applicable screening requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design, configure, integrate, commission, operate, maintain and improve OT SCADA systems and interfaces across wind assets
- Configure, deploy, monitor, troubleshoot and document industrial edge devices, connectors and operational data pipelines
- Integrate real-time and historical operational data using industrial protocols, APIs, databases and OEM-specific interfaces
- Monitor SCADA services and data pipelines, investigate root causes of data and service failures, and support recovery and backfilling of historical data
- Provide engineering-level support for incidents and service requests, including root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions
- Produce technical requirements, solution designs, interface specifications, implementation guides, as-built records and operational runbooks
- Work with OEMs, suppliers, projects, Operations, cybersecurity, IT and adjacent OT engineering teams, including design reviews and solution validation
- Implement OT cybersecurity requirements (hardening, access control, segmentation, controlled change) and provide documentation for audits
Requirements (must have)
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in OT/SCADA engineering or operations, preferably 5+ years
- Experience with OPC UA and REST APIs
- Experience transporting, transforming and validating real-time and historical operational data between OT assets and authorised consumers
- Understanding of signal mapping, timestamps, data quality controls, buffering and historical data recovery
- Ability to diagnose end-to-end OT data-flow issues across applications, interfaces, servers, networks, certificates and identities
- Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity: segmentation, secure remote access, hardening, identity and access management, certificates and IEC 62443-aligned practices
- Experience with incident, problem, change and configuration management in operational environments
- Understanding of DTAP environments, controlled releases and rollback planning in availability- and safety-critical OT systems
- Experience coordinating with suppliers, OEMs and project stakeholders, including solution validation and acceptance
- Ability to produce clear technical designs, test documentation and operational handover material
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in automation, electrical, computer or systems engineering or comparable field (equivalent professional experience may be considered)
- Fluent written and spoken English
Nice to have
- Experience with wind-turbine and substation SCADA systems, or other power generation, utilities or critical infrastructure
- Industrial edge platforms or gateways, preferably Siemens Industrial Edge
- Protocols such as OPC DA, OPC XML-DA, MQTT, IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 61850, IEC 61400-25 and Modbus TCP
- Node-RED, SQL databases and event-streaming technologies
- Exposure to cloud-connected OT solutions, industrial IoT or operational data platforms
- Jira and Confluence or equivalent tools
- ISA/IEC 62443, GICSP or equivalent OT/ICS security training
- Vendor training for Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, Nordex, Siemens Industrial Edge or comparable platforms
