What you'll do

We are seeking an early-career RF Engineer to contribute to the design, development and validation of RF communication subsystems for nanosatellite missions. In this role, you will support RF analysis and integration activities across UHF, VHF, S-band and X-band systems, perform link-budget analyses and help validate performance through hardware-in-the-loop and over-the-air testing. You will join our Satellite Systems Hardware team in Aalborg and collaborate closely with colleagues across RF, Hardware, and Systems Engineering. You will work with GomSpace’s flight-proven NanoCom radios and SDR platform and gain practical experience across simulation, laboratory testing and system-level integration. Depending on the mission, you may contribute to conventional communication subsystems, software-defined radio applications or advanced RF sensing payloads. Your Role As RF Engineer, you will support the development and validation of RF subsystems for satellite missions, from link-budget analysis and RF-chain modelling through integration, hardware-in-the-loop testing and over-the-air validation. Working with experienced engineers, you will gradually build the knowledge and practical experience needed to take responsibility for increasingly complex RF engineering tasks. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Support RF subsystem analysis and technical trade-offs across frequency bands, performance and mission constraints.
  • Perform link-budget analysis and RF-chain modelling.
  • Contribute to the definition and documentation of RF subsystem requirements and interfaces.
  • Support the integration, verification and validation of RF subsystems, including hardware-in-the-loop and over-the-air testing.
  • Assist with the evaluation and selection of RF front-end components across UHF, VHF, S-band and X-band.
  • Prepare and carry out laboratory measurements using RF test equipment.
  • Analyse test results and contribute to troubleshooting RF performance issues.
  • Contribute to onboard signal-processing and data-reduction activities for RF applications.
  • Document analyses, test activities and technical conclusions clearly and systematically.
  • Provide technical input to mission proposals with support from experienced colleagues.

What Success Looks Like In the initial phase, success means:

  • Understanding GomSpace’s NanoCom product portfolio and SDR architecture.
  • Building effective working relationships with colleagues across RF, Hardware and Systems Engineering.
  • Completing a link-budget analysis for an active mission with guidance from experienced colleagues.
  • Performing your first hardware-in-the-loop or over-the-air RF test using GomSpace equipment.
  • Documenting your analysis and test results in a clear and structured way.
  • Communicating RF results and technical observations clearly to colleagues from other disciplines.

Over time, you will take increasing responsibility for RF subsystem analysis, integration and verification activities. You will contribute independently to mission proposals and projects while helping develop reusable RF models, test methods and engineering tools. What You Bring You are a recent graduate or early-career RF engineer who is motivated to apply your technical knowledge to real satellite systems. You enjoy combining analytical work with practical laboratory activities and want to develop your skills within an experienced multidisciplinary team. You likely bring:

  • An MSc in Electrical Engineering, RF or Microwave Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field.
  • Up to one year of relevant experience in RF engineering, communication systems, testing or integration.
  • A basic understanding of RF engineering principles and communication systems.
  • Experience with RF analysis, simulation or laboratory measurements gained through your studies, thesis, student employment, internship or first professional role.
  • Familiarity with RF simulation or engineering tools such as CST, ADS, HFSS, MATLAB, Python or similar.
  • Some experience with RF test equipment, such as spectrum analysers, vector network analysers or signal generators.
  • An interest in satellite communication systems, software-defined radio or digital signal processing.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and spoken English.

Experience from the space or aerospace industry is an advantage but is not required. Relevant academic projects, thesis work, internships and student positions will also be considered. Knowledge of modulation schemes, communication protocols, RF payloads, ECSS standards or space-grade RF qualification would be beneficial. Who You Are You are curious, systematic and motivated by the opportunity to turn engineering analysis into working hardware. You enjoy learning from experienced colleagues while also taking responsibility for your own tasks and development. You are known for:

  • Technical curiosity – eager to understand how RF systems perform in practice.
  • Attention to detail – careful when analysing results, conducting tests and documenting conclusions.
  • Hands-on problem solving – interested in moving between simulation tools and the laboratory bench.
  • Collaborative communication – comfortable working with RF, systems, payload and hardware engineers.
  • Structured execution – able to plan your work, follow up on tasks and communicate when support is needed.
  • Customer focus – understanding that good engineering contributes directly to the success of our customers’ missions.
  • Willingness to grow – open to feedback and motivated to build deeper RF subsystem expertise.

Why Join Us You will have the opportunity to begin or develop your RF engineering career by working on communication systems for real nanosatellite missions. The position offers hands-on experience across RF analysis, laboratory testing and system-level integration. You will work with flight-proven NanoCom radios and SDR platforms while learning from experienced specialists across RF, Hardware, and Systems Engineering. Your work will contribute to mission proposals, subsystem development and technologies that ultimately fly in space. As your experience develops, you will take on increasing technical responsibility and have the opportunity to shape the tools and methods used by the team. Join our mission You are welcome to send your application in English. Interviews will be conducted on a continuous basis. If you have any questions regarding the position, do not hesitate to contact Kelly Antonini, Systems Engineering and Hardware Manager: klan@gomspace.com. The primary workplace will be at our premises in Aalborg, Denmark. The position involves laboratory, integration and test activities and therefore requires regular on-site presence.
