Are you committed to developing talented researchers and advancing audio and acoustic technologies for future communication devices? We are looking for a Research Manager to manage an audio and acoustic research team of approximately 10 people. This is an opportunity to combine people management with scientific understanding—creating the conditions for researchers to thrive, ensuring alignment with long term strategy and roadmaps and helping the team turn research ideas into technologies for future products. In the role of Research Manager – Audio and Acoustic Research is in the Research function, you will contribute to our purpose of Bringing People Closer. You will provide people management, scientific guidance and strategic direction to enable a collaborative research environment and the transfer of relevant technologies into future products. The Team you will be part of: The Research function explores and develops technologies that can shape future communication devices and user experiences. The Audio and Acoustic Research team brings together specialist knowledge in audio, acoustics, signal processing and related technologies.   • Manage, coach and develop a team of audio and acoustic researchers, creating an inclusive and collaborative environment where people can develop and deliver quality outcomes.
  • Set clear direction, priorities and ways of working that align research activities with the wider technology and product strategy.
  • Support individual development through regular feedback, meaningful goals and active guidance, while building the team’s capabilities and research practices.
  • Support the team in exploring new audio and acoustic concepts and guide promising work towards mature, product-relevant technologies.
  • Use your scientific understanding to challenge, guide and support research decisions, experiments and technology directions.
  • Partner with development, platform, hardware, software and product teams to improve the transition from research to implementation.
  • Communicate the team’s progress, results, needs and opportunities clearly to stakeholders, while building relevant relationships with universities and research partners.

To perform well in the role, we imagine that you:

  • Hold a PhD or Master degree in acoustics, audio signal processing, engineering, computer science or a related technical discipline.
  • Bring experience managing, coaching and developing technical specialists, with a clear commitment to enabling people and building collaborative teams.
  • Bring solid scientific understanding of audio, acoustics, signal processing, AI-enabled audio or related communication technologies.
  • Can balance scientific curiosity with delivery focus and support the maturation of research concepts into product-relevant technologies.
  • Communicate clearly and work well with researchers, technical stakeholders and leaders to create alignment, clarity and progress.
