R&D Scientist Internship

June Bio is seeking a curious and ambitious R&D Scientist Interns to join our team in Copenhagen. We are recruiting for a 6-month internship opportunity starting as soon as possible. This internship offers hands-on experience at the intersection of microbial fermentation, molecular biology, and bioprocessing. You will contribute directly to experimental design and execution, participate in problem-solving discussions, and gain firsthand insight into how research translates into innovation in a biotech startup. Throughout the internship, you will work closely with senior researchers who will provide ongoing mentorship, training, and guidance. About June Bio June Bio is a biotech startup focused on enabling scalable and cost-effective production of advanced glycoproteins for human health. Our vision is to improve health outcomes and expand global access to next-generation nutrition and therapeutic products through functional proteins. Based at the BioInnovation Institute in Copenhagen, we are part of a great community of scientists and entrepreneurs developing next-generation biotech solutions. What you’ll work on:

• Work on the Expression and characterisation of mucin variants using bacterial expression systems (e.g. BL21)
• Support recombinant protein analysis workflow: Protein purification (e.g. His-tag), Western blot, SDS-PAGE,, and sample preparation for advanced analyses (e.g. LC-MS)
• Support cloning, transformation, and screening of expression constructs
• Prepare reagents, selection plates, and competent cells
• Register experiments and maintain protocols in electronic lab notebook following company SOPs
• Contribute to data analysis, experimental troubleshooting, and process optimization in collaboration with the R&D team
• Analyze and communicate your results to the team and management
• Ad hoc lab tasks to support the science team

Who you are:

• The internship is NOT suitable for PhD graduates
• We welcome applicants with a bachelor's degree from a broad range of scientific backgrounds, e.g. within molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, bioprocessing
• You have hands-on molecular biology experience: DNA assembly/cloning and heterologous expression of proteins in E. coli and/or yeast.
• Seeking a 6-month internship (37 hours/week) to gain hands-on experience in a life science startup
• You are self-driven and are able to quickly learn new techniques rapidly
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

• Scientific exercise and discussion: Candidates progressing to the next stage will complete a short scientific exercise followed by a discussion with the team. We are interested in how you approach scientific problems and reason through research challenges. No advance preparation is required.
• In-person interview: Final-stage candidates will be invited to our offices in Copenhagen for an interview, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet the team, discuss your experience in more depth, and learn more about June Bio.
