What you'll do

About Basic Genomics Basic Genomics is a molecular tools company that makes isoform-level RNA sequencing possible on standard short-read sequencers. Our technology, RNA BaseCode, gives every RNA molecule its own code. That lets short reads be put back together into whole transcripts, so researchers see which isoforms are actually expressed without moving to long-read platforms. We offer RNA BaseCode as a kit and as a service, together with our IsoViewer analysis software. The role We are looking for an experienced R&D Researcher to join our R&D team and help build the next generation of our molecular workflows. You will own development projects from first idea to a validated protocol ready for customers. You will work closely with our bioinformatics and product teams. This is a hands-on bench role with real influence over our products and technical direction. What you will do

  • Design, optimise and validate new library preparation chemistries and protocols for RNA BaseCode and future products
  • Plan and run experiments end to end, from RNA input through library prep, sequencing and first-pass data QC
  • Improve the robustness, sensitivity and ease of use of existing workflows, and troubleshoot when things fail
  • Transfer finished methods into kit and service production, including SOPs and technical documentation
  • Interpret data together with the bioinformatics team and help set development priorities
  • Contribute to patent filings, publications and collaborator projects

What we are looking for

  • PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry or a related field, or equivalent research experience
  • Documented hands-on experience developing NGS methods, such as designing or optimising library prep chemistries (single-cell RNA-seq experience strongly preferred)
  • Strong molecular biology bench skills such as single-cell RNA sequencing library preparation and other NGS library preparation.
  • Comfort with basic sequencing data QC, either on your own or working closely with bioinformaticians
  • An independent, structured way of working with careful documentation
  • Fluent English, written and spoken

Nice to have

  • Experience from a startup or industry R&D environment
  • Experience with single-cell, full-length or isoform-level RNA-seq methods
  • Experience developing products within a quality system or under design control

What we offer You will join an early-stage company where your work goes straight into products scientists use. You will work in a small, focused team with short decision paths and room to grow as the company scales. How to apply

  • Apply here on LinkedIn or;
  • Send your CV and a short cover letter describing your NGS method development experience to info@basic-genomics.com. We review applications on a rolling basis, so we encourage you to apply early.
