Quantity Surveyor

About the opportunity Our client is an engineering and construction contractor delivering a multi-billion, large-scale data centre development in Norway. As the programme continues to grow, they are expanding the project team across several new contracts. You'll join at a key stage, work on a complex multi-discipline scope, help shape processes and ways of working, and work directly with senior project leadership. The role You'll join the commercial team as a Quantity Surveyor, taking ownership of the commercial management of your allocated packages from measurement and valuation through to final account. You'll protect the client's commercial position, keep accurate records and evidence, and make sure change is identified, priced and recovered. It's a hands-on, project-based role with real responsibility, working alongside engineering, procurement, planning and site teams and the senior commercial lead. Key responsibilities: Measurement, valuation and payment

• Measure and value work carried out by subcontractors and suppliers, and prepare interim and final payment assessments
• Verify progress and quantities on site, and reconcile them against the contract, Bills of Quantities and approved changes
• Review and certify payment applications, retention, deductions and back-charges
• Manage final accounts and close out commercial positions on completed packages

Change, variations and claims

• Identify, record and price changes, variations and instructions as they arise, keeping the full audit trail
• Prepare, review and negotiate change orders, variation orders and claims with subcontractors and the client
• Build well-evidenced claims, including entitlement, notices, quantum and supporting records
• Track the status and value of open changes and claims and report commercial exposure to senior colleagues

Contract and subcontract management

• Review contract documents, scope and Bills of Quantities, and make sure work is delivered in line with contract scope
• Support the preparation of subcontract packages, tender documents and scopes of work
• Take part in tender evaluation, leveling and recommendations, and support negotiations
• Monitor compliance with contract terms, notice periods and procedures

Cost control and reporting

• Maintain cost and commitment records for your packages, and support forecasting and cost-to-complete
• Provide input to monthly cost, commercial and client reporting
• Flag risks, opportunities and budget variances early, with recommended actions

Collaboration and documentation

• Work with engineering, planning, procurement and site teams to gather the information needed for commercial assessments
• Keep commercial documentation, correspondence and records to a high standard, so positions are always evidenced
• Support meetings with client representatives and consultants on commercial and contractual matters
• Help develop commercial templates, routines and best practice as the team grows

Requirements:

• Proven quantity surveying experience on large or complex projects, ideally in the region of 5+ years
• Experience with oil and gas, offshore, industrial or fast-track construction, or data centre and mission-critical projects
• Strong knowledge of contracts and subcontracts, including variations, claims and change control (FIDIC, NEC or similar)
• Experience measuring and valuing work, and preparing payment certificates
• Ability to document and evidence commercial positions clearly and in writing
• Project-based experience, on site or within the project team
• Strong Excel skills and experience with cost or commercial systems
