What you'll do

Do you want to safeguard the quality of world-class systems used by healthcare professionals across the globe? At Sectra we are passionate about improving people's health worldwide. Our systems are used every day to diagnose, review and share medical information, and they need to work, every single time. We are now looking for quality-driven software engineers to join several of our development teams, all working in clinically focused areas. Sectra is one of the world’s leading providers of IT systems for managing medical images. Our long-term ambition is to be the leader in making customers’ diagnostics more efficient and contribute to proven improved care outcomes for patients. In other words - we create future-proof and effective solutions that help save lives. Your role You will be the person who drives quality and testing in a cross-functional team that shares responsibility for what it delivers. Design, development, testing and delivery happen together in the team, and you are part of it from the start – not as a final checkpoint. You get to know the product under the hood, bring the testing perspective into the design, and then put the product to the test: exploratory, to uncover the unexpected, and structured where that is what is needed. You work across the entire product lifecycle: from the code and the individual components, through how the system is deployed in the customer's infrastructure and integrated with other systems, to how the whole thing holds up in clinical workflows. You both use and shape the system's observability – which metrics, logs and traces need to be there for us to understand how the system behaves at the customer site. Direct contact with users is a natural part of your everyday work. We encourage you to explore new ways of working and new tools – not least how you use AI in your own testing, and how we assure the quality of software built with AI as a co-creator. The role looks a little different depending on the team: some teams already have senior testers to grow with, in others you are the one who builds the testing practice – with Sectra's testers as a network across team boundaries. Responsibility grows with you, from owning the testing of what your team delivers to leading the test effort, holding the test strategy together and coaching colleagues. Quality is built by the whole team, and your job is to make that possible. Life at Sectra We take our work seriously and the work put into our solutions is prioritized by our own ideas as well as ideas from customers and stakeholders at Sectra. However, we like to have fun as well and encourage all our employees to explore their own ideas. For example, every six weeks, a two day “RAD-Friday” is arranged where all our engineers have the opportunity to work on their own ideas. Ideas that often are incorporated into our products. , We are looking for someone with a tester's mindset: you see the system through the eyes of its users – both the clinician and our own staff who operate it. You are driven, take initiative and are happy to share what you learn. At Sectra we recruit for attitude and ability: "Hire for attitude and ability. Train for skill." If you have the drive and the interest but not years of experience behind you – apply anyway. We would like you to:

  • Hold a master's degree in engineering or equivalent
  • Communicate clearly and constructively with colleagues, partners and customers
  • Get up to speed quickly in unfamiliar and complex systems
  • Be comfortable with code and scripting – which languages and frameworks you bring matters less than how quickly you pick up new ones
  • Be curious and open to change
  • Be fluent in English, both spoken and written – further languages are a plus
  • Have interests outside work and studies, such as sports, clubs and societies, music, riding, singing or perhaps flying

Nice to have:

  • Experience of planning and leading test work and setting test strategy – what to test, in what order and why – and of coaching colleagues or spreading knowledge across an organization
  • Experience of testing beyond the functional – performance and load testing, security testing or robustness testing
  • Experience of software development, ideally building tests or developing frameworks for automated testing
  • Experience of observability – building metrics, logging and tracing into a system, and using them to track down the cause of unexpected behavior in production
  • Experience of assuring the quality of software systems, ideally in a regulated domain such as medical technology
  • Experience of how software is deployed and operated – CI/CD, cloud environments such as Azure, and container technology
  • Familiarity with medical imaging and its standards, such as DICOM, HL7/FHIR or PACS

Other information: The goal is for the right candidate to start [as soon as possible or date]. We recruit on an ongoing basis. This means we encourage you to apply or contact us as soon as possible. Depending on the role, a mandatory background security screening might be performed as part of the recruitment process at Sectra. Please reach out to the responsible hiring team if you have any questions regarding this. Learn more about our recruitment process here.
