We, The 202Q-lab, Are Looking For Two Highly Motivated Post-doctoral Researchers For Two Of The Major Research Directions In Our Group
Join the 202Q-lab at Chalmers University of Technology and help shape the future of quantum technology. We are recruiting two postdoctoral researchers to contribute to cutting-edge research in quantum information processing with bosonic modes and quantum-enabling technologies. Funded through the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT) and a Knut and Alice Wallenberg (KAW) Proof of Concept Grant, these positions offer the opportunity to work at the forefront of quantum science and innovation. About Us The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience advances the frontiers in quantum technology, nanoscience, photonics and future electronic systems - for technical and societal development. Our cross-disciplinary approach gives interesting collaborations in academy, industry and society, and is a driving force for innovations, results and breakthroughs. We offer a vibrant, international research environment and direct access to world-class nanofabrication facilities. At the Quantum Technology Laboratory, we explore how quantum physics can unlock radically new ways of processing information - far beyond the limits of classical systems. Our research spans quantum computing, sensing, transduction, thermodynamics, and foundations, all aimed at harnessing the powerful behavior of light and matter at the quantum level. We offer a vibrant, international research environment and direct access to world-class nanofabrication facilities. The division is also part of the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT), a 12-year initiative launched in 2018 to advance Swedish academia and industry in quantum technology and to build a Swedish quantum computer. In our research group, the 202Q-lab, we use superconducting circuits to explore fundamental and applied questions in the areas of quantum information processing, microwave quantum optics and communication, and quantum thermodynamics. Our research is funded by WACQT, the Swedish Research Council, the European Research Council (ERC), and the European Innovation Council (EIC). At the 202Q-lab, we are on a mission that takes us from curiosity-driven quantum research to technological and societal impact. About The Research Project
Bosonic modes in superconducting cavities offer an alternative approach to quantum information processing. Compared with two-level superconducting qubits, they can provide longer coherence times, well-understood loss channels, and resource-efficient quantum error correction through their large Hilbert spaces. Our group has demonstrated the preparation, manipulation, and tomography of a logical qubit encoded in a highly coherent 3D cavity mode. We have also demonstrated novel non-Gaussian gates in planar architectures. We now aim to exploit these capabilities to develop new bosonic quantum hardware and address a key challenge: how to build trust in quantum computers performing computations that cannot be efficiently verified by classical machines. We will develop and demonstrate scalable verification protocols for bosonic quantum computers on our superconducting multimode platform. The work will involve device design, fabrication, and quantum control and measurements. It will also benefit from the broader superconducting-qubit ecosystem at Chalmers and WACQT.
Scaling superconducting quantum processors requires efficient, high-fidelity qubit readout, but current systems rely on multiple cryogenic amplifier stages, adding complexity, heat load, and hardware constraints. In the 202Q-lab, we have developed a kinetic-inductance travelling-wave parametric amplifier (KI-TWPA) based on the nonlinear kinetic inductance of superconducting films. Unlike conventional Josephson-junction amplifiers, the KI-TWPA can operate at both millikelvin and 4 K temperatures while providing high gain, wide bandwidth, and excellent power handling. The project will focus on optimizing the KI-TWPA, integrating it into superconducting-qubit readout systems, and demonstrating high-fidelity measurements using it as the only cryogenic amplifier. The work will involve device design and simulation, nanofabrication, cryogenic microwave characterization, and integration with qubit experiments. The ultimate goal is to develop a practical amplifier technology that eliminates the conventional HEMT stage, reducing heat load and simplifying the hardware required for scalable quantum processors. Who We Are Looking For Candidates who see themselves pursuing a career in research and development or education, either in academia or industry. You are driven by scientific curiosity, and by a desire to learn and seek feedback. Outstanding candidates with a strong track record in physics or engineering are encouraged to apply. The Following Requirements Are Mandatory
The Following Merits Will Strengthen Your Application
What You Will Do You are expected to carry out the research in collaboration with members of the 202Q‑lab and our collaborators. The foreseen tasks for these two different positions include:
The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.
