Role snapshot
Are you excited about lasers, nonlinear optics, and pushing photonics hardware to the next level? Do you enjoy turning tricky physics into real, working lab setups? Then this postdoc in compact optical parametric amplifiers and oscillators might be a great next step for you. You will join a leading European technical university where research excellence, sustainability, and real-world impact go hand in hand. Here you will work in an international environment, surrounded by curious people who like to share ideas. The atmosphere is friendly, inclusive, and ambitious – we aim high, but we do it together. About Us The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience advances the frontiers in quantum technology, nanoscience, photonics and future electronic systems - for technical and societal development. Our cross-disciplinary approach gives interesting collaborations in academy, industry and society, and is a driving force for innovations, results and breakthroughs. We offer a vibrant, international research environment and direct access to world-class nanofabrication facilities. The Photonics Laboratory is a dynamic research environment where light-based technologies drive innovation in communication, sensing, and instruments. With expertise in optoelectronic devices, ultrafast optics, and fiber optical communication - from long-haul transmission to datacenter interconnects - we tackle real-world challenges at every scale. We’re a collaborative research team, where Doctoral students and postdocs work alongside senior scientists to shape the future of photonics. About The Position In this postdoc position, you will develop and explore novel concepts for compact optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs) and optical parametric oscillators (OPOs). You will work experimentally in the nanofabrication lab and in other labs, but with plenty of room to shape the direction of the research together with your colleagues. Your results are expected to contribute to next‑generation laser sources for applications in, for example, spectroscopy, quantum technologies, and advanced imaging. You will also take part in the broader academic life of the department, contributing to teaching, supervision, and collaborative projects. This is a chance to grow as an independent researcher while still having strong support and mentoring. Who we are looking for You are a researcher who enjoys being hands‑on in the lab and thinking deeply about physics at the same time. You are curious, self‑driven, and happy to work both independently and as part of a team. You communicate clearly, like to share your results, and are open to feedback and new ideas. We value people who are keen to learn, enjoy problem‑solving, and can stay positive even when challenges appear. The Following Requirements Are Mandatory
You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education. Why you will enjoy working here You will join a research‑intensive university with a strong reputation in technology and natural sciences, operating on a high international level. The culture is open, collaborative, and genuinely focused on quality in research and education. Scientific excellence, innovation, and societal impact are not just buzzwords here – they guide how we plan projects, teach students, and build long‑term collaborations. You can expect a workplace that values diversity, equality, and inclusion, and that actively works to create a welcoming environment for all colleagues. Professional growth is strongly encouraged, with access to pedagogical training, research resources, and opportunities to participate in committees and strategic initiatives. There are clear academic career paths, including structured tenure track options, and strong support for research funding applications. What We Offer
Chalmers is dedicated to improving gender balance and actively works with equality projects, such as the GENIE Initiative for gender equality and excellence.
