Physical Implementation Engineer– Machine Learning

By working with sophisticated Arm IP, you will help build technology that supports the next wave of mobile apps, portable devices, home automation, smart cities, and autonomous vehicles. Responsibilities Within our growing and versatile team, you’ll contribute to the development and verification of groundbreaking ML and Neural Network hardware. Collaborating with experts across global build centers, you’ll drive impactful projects and help deliver Arm’s next-generation IP using the most sophisticated tools and methodologies. Meeting Area, Frequency, and Power requirements with a reasonable runtime is one of most important activities we encounter. As a hardware Physical Implementation Engineer, you will contribute significantly by:

• Identify critical bottlenecks across IP development, performing accurate trade-off between the various PPA metrics of the designs (frequency, power, area).
• Analyzing and optimizing power for our next generation IP, using innovative technologies, methodologies and tools.
• Providing high-quality timing, power and area analysis and recommendations to design teams, with opportunities to take increasing ownership of PPA optimization and technical direction depending on experience.
• Supporting our partners to achieve the best PPA results.
• Liaise with other implementation groups to improve implementation flow alignment across the company.
• Working with the latest technology nodes and EDA Tool Suite offerings from Synopsys, Cadence and Mentor.

Essential Qualifications and Expertise:

• A university degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or a similar subject.
• Knowledge of digital hardware and some hardware description language (VHDL, Verilog and SystemVerilog).
• Knowledge of Physical Implementation flow from RTL through Synthesis, Place & Route, LEC and STA.
• In depth understanding and hands-on experience in balancing trade-offs for PPA.
• Ability to plan/make estimates and timeline for physical implementation related activities.
• A high level of pro-activity, initiative and problem solving skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Understanding of low power build features and techniques, including clock and power gating, voltage/frequency scaling, memory/logic retention.
• Experience in scripting flows using combination of Python, TCL, Bash and MAKE.
• Experience in RTL simulation and verification.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of machine learning / AI fundamentals.
• Knowledge/Interest in building AI agents for a physical implementation workflow.
