What you'll do

Company Description Lizard Photonics is a deep-tech start-up spun out of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). We are developing an ultra-low-power, highly efficient silicon photonics platform for AI data centers, photonic computing, and quantum technologies. Our work spans photonic device design, nanofabrication, NEMS, high-speed electro-optic characterization, and electronic-photonic integration. Based in Kgs. Lyngby, we combine advanced research with a clear focus on building scalable, commercially relevant technology. With newly secured funding, we are expanding our core team and looking for people who want to take ownership, solve difficult engineering problems, and help shape the company as it grows. Do you enjoy solving nanofabrication challenges and seeing a design become a working device? At Lizard Photonics, you will help shape how advanced silicon-photonic devices are made, from mask layout to reproducible fabrication, and work with state-of-the-art commercial foundries for tape-outs. What you will do • Develop and improve fabrication processes for silicon-photonic and nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) devices on silicon-on-insulator platforms. • Work hands-on in the DTU Nanolab cleanroom with electron-beam and optical lithography, plasma etching, deposition, oxidation, metallization, passivation, doping, ion implantation, and vapor-phase etching. • Own mask layout and tape-out preparation using tools such as GDSFactory, KLayout, L-Edit or Cadence Virtuoso. • Coordinate commercial photonic and electronic foundry runs, including MPW and dedicated runs. • Characterize devices using SEM, optical microscopy, profilometry, AFM, ellipsometry, and related metrology. • Analyze process variation, defects, yield, and root causes, and provide feedback to the design team. • Maintain clear process recipes, SOPs, and lot records while working with photonics, testing, packaging, and manufacturing partners. What you bring • A master’s degree or PhD in nanotechnology, microengineering, electrical engineering, photonics, materials science, applied physics, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree with strong relevant experience is also welcome. • Hands-on experience in a micro- or nanofabrication cleanroom. • Experience with mask layout, PDK-based design, or commercial foundry tape-outs. • A structured approach to experimentation, troubleshooting, process control, and documentation. • Good English communication skills and the ability to work independently and across disciplines. It is a plus if you have experience with silicon photonics, MEMS/NEMS, photonic devices, packaging, high-resolution lithography, critical-point drying, surface passivation, doping, yield improvement, or transferring research processes towards commercial manufacturing. Why join us? You will join the core team early, take ownership of critical fabrication work, and help shape our cleanroom, foundry-integration, and scale-up strategy. You will have access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and opportunities to grow alongside the company. Start date by mutual agreement. Salary based on experience.
