What you'll do

Join Beneq as a Mechanical Engineer – Advanced ALD Business Unit, Spatial Team

Ready to put your mechanical design skills at the core of next-gen ALD hardware? At Beneq, you'll take real ownership of mechanical systems for our Spatial ALD tools — from concept and CAD through to installed hardware at customer sites. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who wants to be in the design, in the lab, and in front of the customer.

Beneq, a global leader in Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) technology, is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the Spatial team within our Advanced ALD Business Unit, based at our headquarters in Espoo, Finland.

Your Role at Beneq

You will own the design, development, and optimization of mechanical components and systems for our spatial ALD platforms. You'll work alongside experienced Mechanical engineers, and closely with electrical, software/automation, and process development engineers as well as production, supply chain, and service teams.

You'll also work directly with customers: capturing technical requirements, designing project-specific modifications, and supporting installations, upgrades, and technical reviews. Expect to move between the design desk, the assembly floor, and customer discussions in the same week.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Designing mechanical parts, assemblies, enclosures, and vacuum structures in 3D CAD, with the drawings and documentation to support them.
  • Prototyping, testing, and analysing components — stress, thermal, and tolerance analysis.
  • Working hands-on with tool builds: assembly support, fit checks, measurements, and design verification.
  • Translating customer requirements into project-specific designs, and supporting field cases, installations, and upgrades.
  • Leading root cause analysis for mechanical issues and driving corrective actions and product improvements.
  • Optimizing designs for manufacturability and serviceability with production and supply chain, and maintaining product structures in our PLM systems (Roima Aton and SAP).
  • Ensuring mechanical integration with automation, software, and electrical systems, and compliance with ISO, CE, and related safety standards.

What We're Looking For

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design of industrial or capital equipment.
  • Practical experience with vacuum technology — vacuum chambers, sealing, pumping, and materials for vacuum environments.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Vault and AutoCAD.
  • Practical hands-on experience in manufacturing mechanical components is a strong advantage — e.g. machining, sheet-metal fabrication, welding, and other common manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with FEA and thermal analysis; CFD experience is an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of materials, tolerances, and common manufacturing methods, and of mechanical safety standards (ISO, CE).
  • Experience in customer-facing technical work, and willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites.
  • Fluent English.
  • Experience with gas handling, thin film, or semiconductor process equipment is an advantage.

You Bring

  • A hands-on mentality.
  • An analytical, detail-oriented mindset and pride in well-engineered design.
  • A proactive, ownership-driven way of working, and comfort managing several priorities at once.
  • Curiosity and adaptability for new technologies and tool platforms.

Why You'll Love It Here

At Beneq, your work has a direct line to real products and real impact. You'll be part of a focused Spatial team building cutting-edge ALD solutions in a global high-tech environment — and you'll see your designs delivered to leading customers worldwide.
