Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Lead to support a major data centre project in Norway on an initial 9-month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical commissioning professional with strong technical knowledge and proven leadership experience within data centres, critical infrastructure, or other complex engineering environments.
The successful candidate will lead and coordinate mechanical commissioning activities, oversee technicians and subcontractors, and ensure mechanical systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and programme requirements.
Working closely with the wider commissioning team, construction management, and client representatives, the Mechanical Commissioning Lead will play a key role in ensuring systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and ready for operational handover.
The client will cover flights, accommodation, and three meals per day for the duration of the contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate day-to-day mechanical commissioning activities across the data centre project.
- Supervise mechanical commissioning technicians, subcontractors, and specialist vendors to ensure work is completed safely and to the required standard.
- Plan and coordinate pre-commissioning, commissioning, functional testing, and system handover activities.
- Oversee the commissioning of mechanical systems, including HVAC, chillers, chilled water systems, pumps, pipework, valves, and associated cooling infrastructure.
- Ensure all mechanical installations and equipment comply with approved drawings, design specifications, commissioning procedures, and project requirements.
- Review and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, technical documentation, method statements, and commissioning test procedures.
- Coordinate mechanical line walks, installation inspections, system readiness reviews, and the identification of outstanding works.
- Manage the completion of commissioning check sheets, test packs, inspection records, and other quality documentation.
- Identify, track, and resolve commissioning issues, defects, and punch-list items in collaboration with construction and engineering teams.
- Coordinate with electrical, controls, BMS, and other commissioning disciplines to ensure integrated systems are ready for testing.
- Monitor commissioning progress against the project schedule, identifying potential delays and escalating issues where necessary.
- Lead daily coordination meetings, toolbox talks, and commissioning briefings as required.
- Ensure all activities comply with project health and safety procedures, risk assessments, permit-to-work requirements, and relevant industry standards.
- Liaise with client representatives, commissioning managers, construction managers, and equipment vendors to support successful project delivery.
- Support system turnover, documentation reviews, and final handover to the client or operations team.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in a Mechanical Commissioning Lead, Mechanical Commissioning Supervisor, Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer, or similar leadership role.
- Strong mechanical commissioning experience within data centres, critical infrastructure, industrial facilities, or other complex engineering projects.
- Demonstrable experience leading technicians, subcontractors, or multidisciplinary site teams.
- Strong technical understanding of mechanical systems, equipment installation, pre-commissioning, testing, and commissioning.
- Experience with HVAC systems, cooling infrastructure, pumps, pipework, valves, and associated mechanical equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, technical specifications, and commissioning documentation.
- Experience coordinating commissioning activities, tracking progress, and managing technical issues through to resolution.
- Familiarity with commissioning test packs, quality documentation, inspection records, and punch-list management.
- Strong understanding of construction site health and safety requirements, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to work in Norway on a 2-weeks-on / 1-week-off rotation for the duration of the contract.
