Job Title Master Thesis - Loudspeaker Array Beamforming algorithms Job Description Category Signal Processing and Acoustics Scope 2 students completing 30 credits (20 weeks) each Background Acoustic beams from loudspeaker arrays can be controlled using several well-known algorithms. Performance evaluation is often conducted in idealized simulation environments assuming omnidirectional sources. However, real-world arrays may deviate significantly from theory: drivers exhibit manufacturing variations, frequency-dependent directivity patterns and there may be acoustic leakage between elements. Room boundaries introduce reflections that degrade theoretical beam structure. This thesis aims to quantify these imperfections, understand their individual and combined effects, and assess how they impact beamforming algorithm performance. Goal The objectives below are suggestions rather than strict requirements. We will decide together which objectives to focus on and whether to adjust them to fit your interests and the direction of the thesis.

• Measure and characterize imperfections in a physical loudspeaker array like driver variations, directivity patterns and inter-element acoustic leakage.
• Quantify the relative impact of each imperfection on beam focus and algorithm robustness.
• Compare theoretical algorithm performance against measured results and identify which design factors matter most.
• Investigate, evaluate and suggest methods for calibration.
