Welcome to Nippon Gases | NIPPON GASES Legal Counsel Northern Region Job description Are you a commercially minded legal professional who enjoys variety, responsibility and working close to the business? At Nippon Sanso, we are looking for a Legal Counsel to strengthen our legal and compliance support across the Northern Region, covering Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. As part of our Legal team, you will report to the Legal and Compliance Director and work closely with colleagues across countries, functions and organisational levels. From commercial contracts and legal risk management to GDPR, compliance and strategic initiatives, you will provide practical legal advice that supports business decisions in a varied role where no two days are the same. Based at our Helsfyr office in Oslo, you will join an international organisation and an inclusive local community of around 40 colleagues, where people support each other, ideas are welcomed and a good sense of humour is part of everyday life. What you will do - Commercial contracts: Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements and transactions on both the buy and sell side, assessing legal risks, commercial terms and business implications. - Legal advice and business support: Provide accurate, practical and solution-oriented guidance on a broad range of legal and operational matters to drive business operations forward. - Dispute resolution: Monitor and advise on active legal disputes and proceedings. - Corporate governance: Support corporate governance and oversee corporate housekeeping activities across our regional group companies. - Compliance and data protection: Support compliance and GDPR-related matters, monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments, and contribute to awareness initiatives and training in collaboration with different departments. - Business partnering: Build strong relationships across the organisation, making legal guidance accessible and encouraging early involvement of Legal in commercial and strategic matters. - Process optimisation: Continuously improve departmental efficiency by developing and implementing smart policies, digital tools, templates and best practices. - You will collaborate closely with colleagues across the Northern Region and the wider European Legal team, with occasional travel to our locations, approximately 4–5 times per year. Job requirements Who are you? We believe you will thrive in this role if you combine sound legal judgement with commercial understanding and a practical, hands-on approach. You enjoy working with people, taking responsibility and finding solutions that help the business move forward. We are looking for someone who brings: - A Master’s degree in Law from a European country, ideally with knowledge of Scandinavian law, and approximately 4–7 years of relevant legal experience. - Broad legal knowledge, particularly within commercial contracts and business-related legal matters. - Experience from private practice and/or an in-house legal role. A combination of both is an advantage, but your eagerness to learn and grow is equally important. - Strong commercial awareness and the ability to translate complex legal matters into clear, actionable advice. - Excellent communication skills and fluency in English and Norwegian or another Scandinavian language. - An approachable, collaborative and trustworthy personality, with the ability to build strong relationships and connect naturally with people at all levels. - A proactive, hands-on and solution-oriented mindset, embracing change, seeing opportunities and enjoying new challenges in a varied and dynamic environment. Why join us? - A varied and influential role where you can take ownership of legal matters, contribute to business decisions and make a real impact. - Work closely with colleagues across the Northern Region and the European Legal team, with excellent opportunities to broaden your expertise and develop professionally. - A supportive and inclusive workplace built on trust, openness and knowledge sharing, where we support each other and value diversity. - Flexible working hours and a hybrid working arrangement, with the opportunity to work from home a few days a week. - Competitive salary and bonus scheme, excellent insurance coverage and pension savings through Storebrand. - Modern office facilities, parking and an excellent canteen at our centrally located Helsfyr office, as well as access to company cabins in the mountains and by the sea.
