Lead Front End Developer

As the frontend technical lead, you will drive architectural decisions, establish engineering best practices, and help shape the long-term direction of a sophisticated React and TypeScript application. The platform combines large datasets, analytical workflows, rich user interactions, persistent state management, and advanced 2D/3D visualisation capabilities. The Role You will work closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and subject matter experts to transform complex technical requirements into intuitive and high-performing user experiences. This position combines hands-on development with technical leadership and offers significant influence over frontend strategy, application quality, performance, and scalability. Key Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the frontend architecture of a large-scale React and TypeScript application.
• Define engineering standards, development practices, and technical direction.
• Lead the design and implementation of scalable, maintainable frontend solutions.
• Build performant user interfaces capable of handling large datasets and complex workflows.
• Drive browser performance optimisation, including rendering efficiency, asynchronous data loading, and memory management.
• Collaborate on API design and integration with backend services.
• Support the development of data visualisation and interactive user experiences.
• Mentor developers and promote a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
• Ensure high standards for testing, debugging, observability, and production support.

About You Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with React and TypeScript.
• Proven experience leading frontend architecture for complex production applications.
• Experience building sophisticated software platforms involving analytics, simulation, scientific, engineering, or other data-heavy environments.
• Strong understanding of frontend architecture, application scalability, and software design principles.
• Experience with state management solutions such as Zustand, TanStack Query, Redux, or similar technologies.
• Strong understanding of performance optimisation for modern web applications.
• Ability to work across the full application lifecycle and collaborate effectively with backend teams.
• Excellent problem-solving and technical decision-making skills.

Desirable Experience

• Experience with visualisation technologies such as D3.js, Plotly, Three.js, WebGL, or Canvas.
• Familiarity with engineering, scientific, GIS, CAD, simulation, or technical computing environments.
• Experience developing highly interactive software products used by specialist users.
