  • Standardize operator interaction, alarm management, diagnostics, event logging, fault handling and system-status presentation.
  • Define redundancy, failover, degraded-mode and recovery principles for critical control-system functions.
  • Drive consistent engineering practices across products, projects and regional operations.

Reliability, safety and cybersecurity

  • Govern lifecycle and reliability strategies for critical control-system assets, including obsolescence, backups, recovery, configuration and version control.
  • Be part of or lead technical reviews /RCA of recurring failures, trips, alarms, communication issues and system deviations, and ensure lessons learned are incorporated into standards and maintenance strategies.
  • Define requirements for interlocks, safe-state behavior, barrier functions and operational-risk reduction.
  • Establish operational-technology cybersecurity requirements for access, remote connectivity, patching, backups and secure system architecture.

Verification and lifecycle management

  • Establish qualification and verification strategies, including acceptance criteria and requirements for documented evidence.
  • Define requirements for periodic system health assessments, obsolescence management, technology refresh planning, and long-term asset integrity.

Leadership and continuous improvement

  • Lead the global control-systems discipline within Integrity & Reliability and mentor engineers and specialists across the organization.
  • Coordinate internal and outsourced engineering activities and act as a technical interface between disciplines, operations, suppliers and customers.
  • Contribute to design reviews, root-cause analyses, failure mode, effects and criticality analyses, technology assessments and qualification activities.
  • Shape technology roadmaps, improvement initiatives and long-term standardization priorities.

Essential qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, automation, cybernetics or a related discipline. Extensive relevant expertise may compensate for a lack of formal education.
  • Typically ten or more years of relevant experience in industrial automation, programmable logic controller and supervisory control systems, or integrated control systems.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or governing control-system architectures, standards and lifecycle practices.
  • Strong competence in system integration, industrial networks, diagnostics, alarm management, reliability and fault tolerance.
  • Strong technical documentation, governance and design-review capabilities.
  • Strong written and spoken English.

Preferred experience

  • Experience from offshore, marine, drilling, energy or another safety-critical industry.
  • Knowledge of functional safety, barrier management, operational-technology cybersecurity and operational-risk reduction.
  • Experience with system qualification, commissioning, lifecycle governance or technical assurance.

Personal attributes
