What you'll do

Want to learn fast? Join while we're building the team. Playback is a Copenhagen-based music fin-tech startup helping independent artists and labels take control of their royalty management. We're building technology that turns complicated royalty data, reporting and payment flows into something much simpler. And right now, we're bringing more of our software development in-house. We're looking for a Junior Software Developer who wants to grow alongside the product and the engineering team we're building around it. This isn't a 'wait two years before you get responsibility' role Joining a small startup means you'll be close to the problems, the customers and the decisions. You'll work alongside experienced developers and the rest of the Playback team – but you'll also build things that actually make it into our product. You'll get room to learn, ask questions, make mistakes, improve things and gradually take ownership of increasingly complex parts of the platform. What you'll be working on

  • Building new features for the Playback platform
  • Developing and maintaining APIs and integrations
  • Working with royalty and financial data
  • Automating manual workflows
  • Improving internal tools
  • Fixing bugs and improving existing functionality
  • Writing tests and helping improve the quality of our codebase
  • Working closely with Product and Operations to understand the problems we're solving
  • Learning how software decisions connect to customers and the business behind them

Who we're looking for You may have recently graduated or have your first couple of years of professional development experience. Your exact background matters less than your curiosity and your ability to learn. You have a solid foundation in software development; experience with modern programming languages and web technologies; an understanding of APIs, databases and software architecture; and you care about understandable, maintainable code. You're curious about how systems work, comfortable asking questions, enjoy solving problems and want responsibility rather than waiting for someone to give it to you. Personal projects, GitHub contributions, internships and things you've built simply because you wanted to all count. We don't expect you to know everything. That's partly the point. Why Playback? You'll learn by building real things. Your work won't disappear into a sandbox. You'll work closely with experienced people while our engineering organisation itself takes shape. You'll understand the 'why' by being close to Product, Operations, customers and our founders. You'll have room to grow. As Playback and the engineering team grow, we want your responsibilities to grow with them. You'll have an influence early. Being junior doesn't mean your ideas don't count. You'll work on genuinely interesting problems combining music, data, money, rights, integrations and complicated edge cases. Tech Stack We have customers. We have running systems, and we have a tech stack. Data & Infrastructure: PostgreSQL, Firebase, Supabase, Elest.io, Docker, Docker Compose, Playwright for automated testing. Backend & Pipelines: Python, FastAPI, Panda, Celery, Typescript, Kong API, PostgREST Client Apps: React, Typescript, Vite, AG Grid About Playback Playback helps independent artists and labels spend less time managing royalties and more time building their businesses and careers. We collect, ingest and integrate royalty sources from across the music industry and bring the data together in one platform. We're based in Copenhagen and are building Playback for a much bigger market than Denmark. If you'd like your next few years as a developer to involve a lot of learning, responsibility and building, we'd love to hear from you. -
