What you'll do

About RoyalHacks RoyalHacks is Denmark's first national student hackathon. In April 2026 we ran the first edition at ITU with 62 participants, 5 university partners (ITU, KU, DMJX, AAU, and AU), 13 corporate partners, and funding from Tuborgfondet. RoyalHacks takes place over a weekend, and it's free for all university students to attend. We bring together students with an interest in digital technologies and give them 24 hours to invent an idea and turn it into a functional product. We're recruiting volunteers into our organizing team to help us plan RoyalHacks 2027, which will also take place in April.

We're Recruiting For

  • Marketing & Communications (Team Lead)
  • Fundraising (Team Lead)
  • Event Operations (Volunteers)
  • Tech & Automation (Volunteers)

You're viewing the post for Marketing & Communications. If another team fits you better, check our other listings, or mention it in your application and we'll route you. The role We're looking for the right person to lead our Marketing & Communications team. You'll own two domains in one team: marketing, which builds awareness of RoyalHacks among customers (companies, foundations, and organizations), and communication, which shapes how everyone experiences RoyalHacks, from participants to volunteers to partners and collaborators. You’ll build and lead your own team of volunteers to deliver both, and you’ll be part of RoyalHacks’ board and leadership team. Leading this team Running two domains. Marketing and communications share a team, but they have different audiences and goals. You make sure neither gets neglected. Leading the team, not doing things yourself. Our volunteers join RoyalHacks to learn, and your job is to make that happen. Most of the work gets done by your team, not by you. You delegate outcomes and let people own how they get there. Building the team. You recruit your own volunteers (write the job posts, run the interviews), decide how big your team should be, and part ways with people if the dynamic isn’t working. Developing people. You learn each volunteer’s learning goals and steer them toward what they need, not only what they ask for. You hold regular one-on-ones with your volunteers. Owning decisions. We select leads because we trust their judgement. We expect you to make decisions, act on them, and inform the people they affect. If you're stuck, seek help from the leadership team with a recommended decision ready, and we'll work it out together. Being part of the leadership team. You work directly with other team leads, advise other teams on marketing and communication, and join a short weekly status meeting. Socialize and engage. Our volunteers are community oriented. We’re looking for people who want to invest in our community and socialize outside of RoyalHacks. The environment. RoyalHacks is a tech event with many technical people. Our goal is to strengthen innovation and inclusion in the tech industry through cross-disciplinary collaboration between students and companies. You don't need to be technical, but you do need to care about why RoyalHacks exists. If you're unsure, read our vision and mission statement above. How we work together. When you start, we’ll sit down and agree on a win/win agreement: what you’re responsible for, what support you get, and what you get out of the role. After that, you decide how to get there. You can book one-on-ones with Hannibal, our founder, whenever you want feedback or a sounding board. You also have support from other teams and team leaders. We expect accountability, ownership, and open communication. Mistakes are part of learning. Proactively seek advice from external professionals and learn from your team. RoyalHacks has goodwill with many external professionals and organizations who are happy and willing to help our cause. As a leader, we expect you to be curious about how you can improve, seek out mentorship from people who can teach you, and learn from the volunteers on your team. What your team works on Marketing Marketing creates awareness of RoyalHacks among our customers. Customers are companies, foundations, and organizations, not our participants. Our product is event partnerships. Marketing Makes Our Product Known To Our Target Customers, So It’s Easier For All Teams To Start Conversations With Prospects And Close Partnerships Of All Types

  • The Fundraising Team secures donations from foundations and universities.
  • The Program Team secures sponsorships with companies who we want present at our event.
  • The Event Operations Team secures in-kind sponsorships to provide food, drinks, and gifts for volunteers and participants.
  • The Marketing & Communications Team secures partnerships with organizations, companies, or media channels, who can help us reach our target customers or broad audience more effectively.

Using The 4 P's (place, Product, Price, And Promotion), Your Team Figures Out Where Our Target Customers Are, What Need Our Partnerships Fulfil, And How To Reach Them. This Includes

  • Defining our marketing strategy and identifying the channels where potential partners are most likely to engage
  • Content for LinkedIn, where our target customers find us: partnership opportunities, conference appearances, and outcomes from past partnerships
  • Preparing for and attending conferences
  • Authoring press releases
  • Website content and SEO analysis
  • Designing promotional materials (digital and print)
  • Market analysis to validate our partnership pricing, which is currently only tentatively defined
  • Capturing and analyzing customer feedback
  • Identifying new tools for marketing initiatives, such as email marketing
  • Seeking out media mentions with potential collaborators
  • Identifying and securing marketing-based partnerships

Communication Communication builds and maintains RoyalHacks' brand identity and brand experience over the long term. Where marketing speaks to our customers, communication speaks to our broad audience: participants, volunteers, partners, collaborators, and everyone else looking at us. Using The 4 C's (clarity, Compellingness, Consistency, And Content), Your Team Makes Sure Our Messages Are Understood And Reflect Our Values, Across Digital, Print, And Physical Formats. This Includes

  • Defining our communication strategy and tone of voice, and coaching other teams in communicating on behalf of RoyalHacks
  • Content for LinkedIn and Instagram: showcasing the work we do inside RoyalHacks, stories from past participants, and how RoyalHacks contributes to more job opportunities and a more inclusive and innovative tech industry in Denmark
  • Messages read by many people: event descriptions, job posts, press releases, internal guides, and operational emails
  • Templates for recurring formats: emails, social media posts, job posts, and internal documentation
  • Updating and creating content for our website and online platforms
  • Creating writing skills for popular AI tools to help other teams communicate according to guidelines set by your team, e.g. a skill for writing job posts or professional emails in our tone of voice.
  • Handling our shared inbox and messaging platforms: routing emails to the right teams and sharing practical information with participants, volunteers, and partners
  • Automating repetitive communication, such as the onboarding email for new volunteers. You'll work closely with our Tech & Automation team on this
  • Capturing feedback from our stakeholders and sharing insights with the relevant teams
  • Recruiting volunteers. Our team leads recruit their own volunteers, and your team makes sure the openings reach the right students: job posts that sound like us, and campaigns when a team needs people.
  • Driving registrations for our event through content creation for social media, advertising campaigns across campuses and student organizations, and our university partners' internal channels. Last year we had 110 signups. Our target is 240 signups for RoyalHacks 2027.
  • Building our template library as we go. Every message or document that will be written more than once becomes a template: partner outreach, thank-yous, participant emails, job posts, internal guides, press releases. The rule is that nothing gets written from scratch twice. When another team asks you to help write something, you write it with them and leave a template behind.
  • Communicating proactively. Don't wait for other teams to tell you what to communicate. Anticipate what our audiences will need, prepare it, and let the relevant teams know. For example, partners expect to hear from us quickly after the event. Last year that took four weeks because nobody had prepared for it. This year, your team writes the templates before the event starts and hands them to each partner's owner, so the personal follow-up comes from the person that partner already knows. Your team should anticipate other communication needs beforehand and coordinate with other teams.

The rule of thumb is that your team will handle all communication that goes out to multiple recipients, e.g. a mass email to all participants. Teams will also ask for your help when writing important emails or documents to key stakeholders. A note on partnerships Marketing creates awareness and interest so every team has an easier time securing donations, company partnerships, and in-kind support. Most of those conversations belong to the team that owns the partnership type. But when you identify an opportunity that serves our marketing efforts (a media partnership, a channel collaboration, a community that can give us reach), your team will reach out to these prospects, handle the meetings, build the relationship, and make the deal. If a deal needs paperwork, our Fundraising team helps with creating the written agreement and invoicing the partner. What success looks like in 2027

  • 240 signups for RoyalHacks 2027
  • Thank-you and follow-up templates written and handed to each partner's owner before the event starts
  • A defined tone of voice, a template library, and a guide other teams actually use when communicating on behalf of RoyalHacks
  • A new website for our organization. Used to attract volunteers and future partners
  • A new/updated website for our event in 2027. Our current website was created for our event in 2026
  • A new collection of reusable merchandise designed for conferences and our main event

You’re right for this role if you

  • Have led people or projects before, in a student organization, a job, or a volunteer role
  • Write and speak clear, persuasive English
  • Are comfortable being a public face of RoyalHacks, also on LinkedIn
  • Can run two different domains without letting one swallow the other
  • Care about innovation and cross-disciplinary student collaboration, not just marketing or communication
  • Care about contributing to and engaging with the other volunteers in our community

What you’ll gain

  • Real leadership experience building, training, and running a team for a national event
  • A reference letter describing your leadership and your specific contributions
  • A certificate documenting your role: Head of Marketing & Communications
  • Portfolio work: campaigns, content, and strategy you can show future employers
  • A network of professionals, foundations, universities, and ambitious students
  • Growing responsibility as you show what you can do

Time and place You'll commit to being involved with RoyalHacks from October 2026 to June 2027. We work both remotely and on-location in Copenhagen. We host regular in-person meetings and social events, and we expect team members to participate actively in the team. All team members are expected to be present for the full RoyalHacks event weekend in March or April 2027. The expected commitment is approximately 10-15 hours per week, depending on your responsibilities. There will be busier periods leading up to the main event, and conferences or networking events. How to apply Send your application by October 15, 2026. Include The Following

  • A short video (max. 30 seconds). Tell us what your dream job is and why it attracts you. (We ask because this role is a public face of RoyalHacks, and knowing your goals helps us shape the role around your goals. Attach as a file or share a link.)
  • Written application (max. 400 words). Tell us about your background, your experience with marketing and communication, and your experience with leadership. Also tell us why you want to volunteer with us specifically.
  • A look at your work. Share what you've made: side projects, creative work, writing, posts, campaigns. We're not looking for polish. We want to see how you work and what you've learned along the way.
  • Resumé and LinkedIn profile.
  • Tell us about your availability between October 2026 and June 2027, and anything that affects your time, such as exams, jobs, or travel.

What happens next: we invite selected applicants to an interview in the second half of October, and everyone hears back from us by November 15. Internal communications are in English. Danes and internationals are encouraged to apply.
