What you'll do

About RoyalHacks RoyalHacks is Denmark's first national student hackathon. In April 2026 we ran the first edition at ITU with 62 participants, 5 university partners (ITU, KU, DMJX, AAU, and AU), 13 corporate partners, and funding from Tuborgfondet. RoyalHacks takes place over a weekend, and it's free for all university students to attend. We bring together students with an interest in digital technologies and give them 24 hours to invent an idea and turn it into a functional product. We're recruiting volunteers into our organizing team to help us plan RoyalHacks 2027, which will also take place in April.

We're Recruiting For

  • Marketing & Communications (Team Lead)
  • Fundraising (Team Lead)
  • Event Operations (Volunteers)
  • Tech & Automation (Volunteers)

You're viewing the post for Fundraising. If another team fits you better, check our other listings, or mention it in your application and we'll route you. The role We’re looking for the right person to lead our Fundraising team. RoyalHacks is free for participants, so everything we do is funded by foundations, universities, and corporate partners. In 2026, Tuborgfondet funded our event with DKK 30,000. For 2027, our goal is DKK 60,000 for the event and DKK 20,000 for volunteer benefits. You’ll build and lead a team of volunteers that finds the right foundations, wins their support, and invests in existing relationships to keep them coming back year after year. You’ll own our funding strategy and our relationships with foundations and our university partners. You’ll be part of RoyalHacks’ board and leadership team. Leading this team Keeping the pipeline full. Most applications get rejected, and we don't yet know which strategies work best for us. Treat this work as a series of science experiments: vary your outreach, your framing, the types of foundations you approach, and how you write the application. Then keep what works. Seek out opportunities, and don't hold back. A big part of leading this team is leading by example. Encourage your team to identify opportunities and act on them. Show resilience, tolerate rejection, and be tenacious about following up and reaching out, so your team learns to do the same. Leading the team, not doing things yourself. Our volunteers join RoyalHacks to learn, and your job is to make that happen. Most of the work gets done by your team, not by you. You delegate outcomes and let people own how they get there. Building the team. You recruit your own volunteers (write the job posts, run the interviews), decide how big your team should be, and part ways with people if the dynamic isn't working. Developing people. You learn each volunteer's learning goals and steer them toward what they need, not only what they ask for. You hold regular one-on-ones with your volunteers. Owning decisions. We select leads because we trust their judgement. We expect you to make decisions, act on them, and inform the people they affect. If you're stuck, seek help from the leadership team with a recommended decision ready, and we'll work it out together. Being part of the leadership team. You work directly with other team leads, advise other teams on funding and partner relationships, and join a short weekly status meeting. Socialize and engage. Our volunteers are community oriented. We’re looking for people who want to invest in our community and socialize outside of RoyalHacks. The environment. RoyalHacks is a tech event with many technical people. Our goal is to strengthen innovation and inclusion in the tech industry through cross-disciplinary collaboration between students and companies. You don't need to be technical, but you do need to care about why RoyalHacks exists. If you're unsure, read our vision and mission statement above. How we work together. When you start, we’ll sit down and agree on a win/win agreement: what you’re responsible for, what support you get, and what you get out of the role. After that, you decide how to get there. You can book one-on-ones with Hannibal, our founder, whenever you want feedback or a sounding board. You also have support from other teams and team leaders. We expect accountability, ownership, and open communication. Mistakes are part of learning. Proactively seek advice from external professionals and learn from your team. RoyalHacks has goodwill with many external professionals and organizations who are happy and willing to help our cause. As a leader, we expect you to be curious about how you can improve, seek out mentorship from people who can teach you, and learn from the volunteers on your team. What your team works on Your team is responsible for bringing in the money we need to host our event, invest in our volunteers, and scale our organization. Your main focus is building and maintaining good relationships with foundations and university partners, to secure both current and future income. Several teams in RoyalHacks identify and secure partnerships, each of a different type. Here's the split:

  • The Fundraising Team secures donations from foundations and universities.
  • The Program Team secures sponsorships with companies who we want present at our event.
  • The Event Operations Team secures in-kind sponsorships to provide food, drinks, and gifts for volunteers and participants.
  • The Marketing & Communications Team secures partnerships with organizations, companies, or media channels, who can help us reach our target customers or broad audience more effectively.

Here Is What Your Team Will Handle

  • Research Danish foundations, grants, and public funding pools that fit our mission, and keep our pipeline broad enough that no single rejection puts the event at risk.
  • Meet foundations and university partners regularly. Learn what their missions are, and how we can help them.
  • Write grant applications in Danish and English. A large number of Danish foundations only accept applications in Danish.
  • Negotiate donations and terms with foundations and university partners.
  • Own our relationships with foundations and university partners end-to-end, from the first contact to the renewal.
  • Nurture those relationships so our donors keep supporting us year after year. Keep them updated throughout the year, thank them for their donation, thank them again after our event, and show them the impact their donation made.
  • Plan our impact report before the event. Decide what we need to prove, design the systems that collect the data, and coordinate with the other teams so the numbers, photos, and quotes actually get captured. Your team is responsible for making sure that happens.
  • Compile and publish the impact report after the event, and tailor it personally for our bigger donors.
  • File the reporting our foundations and grants require, on time. Most donors set terms and conditions we have to meet, so record what each of them requires and make sure we meet it.
  • Record every donor relationship in our shared partner database, so relationships don't get lost when a volunteer leaves RoyalHacks.
  • Maintain that database for the whole organization. Every team records its own partnerships there, and your team does the weekly upkeep and assigns new leads to the team that should own them.
  • Create and maintain the agreement templates that every team uses, for any partnership type.
  • Agree the terms and trigger the invoice when a partner says yes. Our founder issues the invoice and follows the payment.

What success looks like in 2027

  • DKK 60,000 raised for the event and DKK 20,000 for volunteer benefits, from at least three different donors
  • Every university co-host renewed for 2027
  • Our impact report in the hands of every donor and partner within three weeks of the event
  • A partner database that next year’s team can pick up and continue from
  • A collection of guides which outline your successful strategies and key learnings, framed as educational material for future volunteers

You’re right for this role if you

  • Have led people or projects before, in a student organization, a job, or a volunteer role
  • Write clearly and persuasively, and enjoy making a case for something you believe in
  • Are comfortable asking for money, getting rejections, and following up persistently when a prospect goes silent
  • Are organized about deadlines. Foundation deadlines are fixed, and a missed one costs us a year
  • Care about why RoyalHacks exists, not only about fundraising
  • Are excited about engaging with the volunteers in our community
  • Can write fluently in Danish, or are ready to build a team where someone does. Many Danish foundations expect applications in Danish.

What you’ll gain

  • Real leadership experience building, training, and running a fundraising team for a non-profit organization and national event
  • Concrete numbers for your resumé (how much you raised, the number of partnership agreements, and more)
  • Experience with relationship building, grant applications, partnership agreements, and negotiating with institutions
  • A network of foundations, universities, companies, and ambitious volunteers
  • A reference letter describing your leadership and specific contributions
  • A certificate documenting your role: Head of Fundraising.
  • Opportunities for more responsibility in our organization

Time and place You'll commit to being involved with RoyalHacks from October 2026 to June 2027. We work both remotely and on-location in Copenhagen. We host regular in-person meetings and social events, and we expect team members to participate actively in the team. All team members are expected to be present for the full RoyalHacks event weekend in March or April 2027. The expected commitment is approximately 10-15 hours per week, depending on your responsibilities. There will be busier periods leading up to the main event, and conferences or networking events. How to apply Send your application by October 15, 2026. Include The Following

  • A short case (max. 300 words). Identify a mix of five Danish foundations, and grants or public funding pools, other than Tuborgfondet, that RoyalHacks could apply to. Tell us why each of them fits, then pick the most promising prospect and tell us how you would approach building a relationship with them before making the ask (foundation, grant issuer, etc.)
  • Written application (max. 400 words). Tell us about your background, your experience with fundraising, sales, and leadership, and why you want to volunteer with us specifically.
  • A short text (max. 200 words). Tell us what your dream job is and why it attracts you. (Knowing your goals helps us shape the role around your goals.)
  • Resumé and LinkedIn profile.
  • Tell us about your availability between October 2026 and June 2027, and anything that affects your time, such as exams, jobs, or travel.

What happens next: we invite selected applicants to an interview in the second half of October, and everyone hears back from us by November 15. Internal communications are in English. Danes and internationals are encouraged to apply.
