What you'll do

About Eating Europe Since 2011 we have grown from a single food tour in Rome into the largest culinary tour operator in Europe, with 23 cities and counting, and approaching one million guests hosted. We run small-group food tours, cooking classes, and private culinary events. We work with Seabourn, Disney and Uniworld, and run private events for companies including Google and Microsoft. We have more than 80,000 five-star Tripadvisor and Google reviews, and our tours have been written about by The New York Times, Lonely Planet, Rick Steves and the BBC. Ten of our tours have received the 2026 Travelers’ Choice Award from Tripadvisor customers, designating them among the best on the planet. We are growing quickly. Alongside Stockholm we are opening in additional cities across the globe, as we continue to branch out from Europe into Asia, Latin America and beyond. Stockholm is a city we have wanted to open for a long time - a Nordic food scene that has quietly become one of the most interesting in Europe, and one we can’t wait to show people properly. The opportunity This is a launch role. Our Stockholm tour is being built now, and you will be the person who delivers it. You will be our face in Stockholm: the one standing in front of the guests, telling the story of the city through what people eat in it, and making sure every departure is one people talk about afterwards. You will also be our eyes on the ground while the tour takes shape, walking the route, tasting the stops, and telling us honestly what works and what doesn’t. You will work closely with Mark von Sponeck, our Operations Manager, who runs Stockholm from Copenhagen and visits regularly. Mark handles the operational side (vendor orders, scheduling and last-minute guest numbers) so that you can concentrate on guiding. What the engagement involves Guiding the tours • Guiding our Stockholm food tours in English, to the standard our guests expect. • Looking after guests properly, including when something goes wrong, for example late arrivals, dietary requirements, a vendor closing unexpectedly. • Keeping our service standards, which are the same for everyone who delivers our tours anywhere in the network. • Taking priority on private and bespoke tours, which are the best paid work we allocate. Helping shape the product • Walking and testing the route with us, and telling us honestly where it drags, where it sings, and what is missing. • Bringing your own local knowledge to bear on the stops, the neighbourhoods and the stories we tell. • Feeding back what guests respond to once real tours are running, and suggesting improvements. Being our presence on the ground • Maintaining warm day-to-day relationships with the restaurants, producers and venues on the tour. • Flagging early where a vendor relationship is not working, or where standards are slipping. • Letting the company know promptly about anything that affects departures. How the engagement works This is a freelance engagement. You will contract with Eating Europe Inc. as an independent business, supplying services to us. You decide how you deliver them; we agree what needs delivering and to what standard. You are free to work for other clients. You will be responsible for your own invoicing, tax and social security contributions in Sweden, and for any registration or insurance your own business requires. We pay against invoice; we do not withhold or administer tax on your behalf. For that reason we ask that you hold, or are able to obtain, approval for F-tax (F-skatt) from Skatteverket. What we offer besides the pay • A founding role. You will help shape what an Eating Europe tour in Stockholm is, and it will carry your fingerprints for years. • Social events hosted by the company to meet with and get to know the other guides and members of the team. • A warm, international group of people who care a great deal about food and about doing this well. Who we are looking for Essential • Resident in Stockholm, with deep local knowledge of the city and its food. • Excellent spoken English: confident, natural, and able to hold a group’s attention for three hours. You do not need to be a native speaker, but you do need to be genuinely fluent, and we will assess this. • Experience in front of paying guests - guiding, hosting, performing, teaching, or another role where you have held a room. • Registered as self-employed in Sweden with approval for F-tax (F-skatt), or able to register before starting, and able to issue invoices. • Available all week, including weekends. • Highly organised, proactive and reliable, with the ability to work independently while keeping us informed. A big plus • Experience guiding food tours, particularly with another food tour operator. • A background in acting, performing or storytelling - some of our best guides come from there rather than from tourism. • Experience guiding historical or cultural walking tours. • A background in hospitality, restaurants or food writing. • Swedish, or other additional languages. • An existing network among Stockholm restaurants, producers or the wider food scene. How to apply Apply through the LinkedIn posting, or send your CV and a short note on why this role interests you to michael@eatingeurope.com (please tell us what your favourite thing to eat in Stockholm is, and where you would take us for it). What happens next Here is the whole process: • Application. Apply via LinkedIn, or via email with CV and a short covering note. • A short video. If your application looks promising, we will ask you for a video of 30-90 seconds, in English, telling us about one place in Stockholm you would take a visiting friend to eat, and why. Filmed on your phone is completely fine - we are interested in you, not in production values. • Interview. Based on the application and short video, we will invite a short list of candidates to interview. • Final conversation. The last two or three candidates will be called to a final, second round interview. Before we make an offer we may ask for two professional references, whom we would contact in confidence. If appointed, we pay for the time you spend getting up to speed on the tour. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds.
