What you'll do

Introduction We are looking for a talented Field Service Engineer based in Ballerup, Denmark or in Southern Germany. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 7 years of experience in servicing and maintaining scientific, analytical, biomedical, or laboratory equipment. About the Role We are seeking a skilled and motivated Field Service Engineer to join Sophion Bioscience’s small, dedicated service team. You will work alongside curious, hands-on colleagues who solve problems, share knowledge, and support one another - even when working independently in the field. The team values high-quality work, clear communication, and a straightforward, respectful customer experience. In this key role, you will ensure the reliable performance of our automated patch clamp and organ-on-a-chip instruments at customer sites. Your responsibilities will include troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs, system evaluations, customer training, and coordinating upgrades with cross-functional teams. As an ambassador for Sophion, you will build strong customer relationships by communicating effectively and resolving technical issues promptly, helping drive the continued growth of Sophion Bioscience. About Us Since 2000 Sophion Bioscience has pioneered Automated Patch Clamping for ion channel research. Today, we specialize in automated solutions for pre-clinical life sciences. We work closely with academic institutions, contract research organizations, and leading biotech and pharmaceutical companies to create effective assays for screening and characterization. Our solutions empower the study of drug targets and candidates at the bench, reducing development time in discovery and reducing risk in clinical trials. Through the continued development of our Automated Patch Clamp portfolio (QPatch & Qube) and our new Organ On a Chip platform (Ethica), we offer uncompromised data quality in a user-friendly environment, from assay setup to advanced data analysis. We are driven by curiosity, teamwork, and a genuine passion for helping scientists succeed. We work in an open and collaborative environment where people share knowledge freely, support each other across roles and borders, and take pride in doing things properly. Our culture is informal, trusting, and grounded in respect — for colleagues, customers, and the science we enable. Even as we grow globally, we remain a company where people feel welcome, included, and able to make a meaningful impact. We are headquartered in Denmark and have subsidiaries in the United States, Japan, and China. What You'll Do

  • Installation and Commissioning: Conducting on-site installation and commissioning of Sophion Automated Patch Clamp and Ethica M instrumentation, ensuring it meets the client's specifications and quality standards.
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of QPatch, Qube and Ethica M systems to ensure uninterrupted functionality. Responding promptly to service requests and providing timely resolutions.
  • Documentation: Creating detailed service reports, documentation, and maintaining accurate records of all service activities. Providing feedback to the engineering and R&D teams for continuous product improvement.
  • Training: Providing training to clients on the proper usage, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Sophion automated patch clamp & Ethica M instrumentation, ensuring they have a clear understanding of its features and capabilities.
  • Customer Support: Serving as a point of contact for technical support, addressing client inquiries, and maintaining strong relationships with customers to enhance satisfaction.
  • Collaboration: Collaborating with the Sales, Application Science and Engineering teams to communicate client feedback, potential product enhancements, and identify opportunities for upselling additional services or products.

Who You Are You are an experienced service professional with a passion for customer success, technical excellence, and being a team player. You thrive in a hands-on environment where no two days are the same and enjoy executing your day-to-day responsibilities in close collaboration with the rest of the Sophion team. We imagine that you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Biomedical Engineering, a related field or equivalent certifications
  • In-depth knowledge of liquid handling devices from various industry systems is a benefit.
  • Experience with electrical and pneumatics preferred
  • Must possess a good grasp of core engineering concepts which include the ability to read and interpret electrical/circuit Schematic drawings.
  • Able to use test/measuring equipment like Digital Multimeter (DVM).
  • Team player, critical thinker, and flexible for effective performance in the field.
  • Experience with service management systems and processes
  • Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of Festo pressure systems is a plus
  • Manage MySQL and Oracle databases to ensure seamless system integration and performance.
  • Network Configuration and Maintenance: configure and troubleshoot network setups, routers, and DHCP configurations to guarantee optimal system connectivity.
  • Possess a basic understanding of Linux systems to address software and operating system-related challenges.
  • Demonstrate excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities to address technical issues promptly.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues, ensuring a positive and collaborative working place.
  • Ability to travel 50-60% once initial training is complete.
