What you'll do

We’re working with a global infrastructure provider that’s building out its field engineering capacity across Europe, and they’re looking for an experienced Fibre Splicing & Test Engineer to join on a contract basis. This is a hands-on, on-the-road role. You’ll be travelling to client sites across the region, mostly data centres and network infrastructure projects, to splice, terminate and test fibre, then make sure everything is documented and signed off properly before you move on to the next job. Expect to be travelling around 85% of the time, so it suits someone who enjoys variety and is comfortable living out of a suitcase for much of the month. The work will include:

  • Fusion splicing single-mode and multi-mode fibre, including high-count and ribbon cables
  • Terminating and installing fibre panels, enclosures and cable management
  • OTDR and light source and power meter testing, with accurate results recorded to customer standards
  • Fault finding, tracing and remediation on failed or underperforming links
  • Working to drawings, method statements and site safety rules on live sites

What they’re looking for You’ll need solid, proven experience as a fibre splicer, confidence with OTDR testing and trace analysis, and good attention to detail with test documentation. You must hold an ID06 card, or be in a position to get one quickly, and live within easy reach of a major international airport, as you’ll be flying out to site regularly. Data centre experience, ribbon splicing and relevant certifications will put you ahead.
