Embedded Software Engineer

Zaptec is a consumer IoT company. Our chargers are physical, internet-connected products used by customers across Europe. Building them brings together hardware, embedded software, cloud communication, production and devices already operating in the field. As an Embedded Software Engineer, you'll develop software that runs on real chargers and contributes directly to how people charge their cars every day. You'll take ownership of defined tasks and features, collaborate closely with experienced engineers and gradually work across more parts of the system as your experience grows. You won't be expected to understand the entire product from day one. What matters is that you have a solid technical foundation, enjoy solving problems and are ready to contribute. Depending on your background, you may already have a few years of professional experience, or your most relevant experience may come from university projects, internships or personal projects. Our embedded software teams work on two charger platforms. Engineers generally join one device team and work primarily with that team's platform:

• Zaptec Go uses FreeRTOS/ESP32 and a C application running on the RTOS.
• Zaptec Pro uses Linux/Yocto, including device trees, drivers and network interfaces, together with a C# application running on the embedded Linux platform.

Some of the things you'll spend time on:

• Develop and maintain embedded applications for Zaptec Go and Zaptec Pro, focusing on quality, reliability, and maintainability.
• Write bare-metal C for microcontrollers that perform timing-sensitive tasks in our EV chargers.
• Contribute to our Yocto-based Linux development by working with device trees, drivers, and network interfaces.
• Build and maintain communication between our chargers and Azure services as we introduce new device features.
• Monitor devices in the field, investigate issues, and implement fixes delivered through over-the-air updates.
• Collaborate with colleagues across embedded software, hardware, cloud, app, and production to deliver complete solutions.
• Improve how we develop, test, and maintain our systems, and share your knowledge with the team.

You may be at the beginning of your career or already have some professional experience, but you are comfortable taking responsibility for your own work and asking questions when you need context or input. You don't need to know every technology we use. We care more about your foundation, how you approach problems and your motivation to build software that interacts with real hardware. As for the skills required for this job

• A degree in Computer Science, Cybernetics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience writing C or C++. This may come from professional work, university projects, internships or personal projects.
• An understanding of, or strong interest in, how software and hardware interact.
• Experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, Linux, FreeRTOS, communication protocols or cloud-connected devices is useful, but not required.
