What you'll do

Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineer Location: Stavanger, Norway (UK candidates and international relocation considered) Salary: Competitive Employment: Permanent | Full-time Working Arrangement: Predominantly office-based, with some flexibility to work from home The Opportunity We are recruiting for a Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineer to join an established international engineering and technology business developing advanced downhole solutions for the oil and gas industry. This is an opportunity to play a key role in the development and commercialisation of innovative Electro-Chemical Metal Removal (ECMR) technology, designed to address complex challenges in well intervention and plug and abandonment (P&A) operations. The position combines mechanical engineering, electrical systems integration and hands-on product development. You will be involved throughout the engineering lifecycle, from initial concepts and detailed design through prototyping, qualification testing and field deployment. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary engineering team based in Stavanger, supporting technology development and operations across the company's international business. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop advanced electro-mechanical downhole tools for well intervention and P&A applications.
  • Take new products from initial concept through detailed engineering, prototyping, testing, qualification and field deployment.
  • Integrate mechanical components with electrical and electronic systems, sensors, actuators and associated control technologies.
  • Produce and develop 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Participate directly in tool assembly, prototyping, troubleshooting and system testing.
  • Develop robust engineering solutions capable of operating reliably in demanding downhole environments.
  • Support field trials, equipment qualification and operational deployments, resolving technical challenges and implementing improvements.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and other engineering specialists to optimise tool performance.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure components and equipment meet quality, performance and delivery requirements.
  • Contribute to the continued development and commercialisation of new downhole technologies.

Experience & Qualifications Essential

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience developing downhole tools or associated technologies within the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong practical experience across both mechanical and electrical/electronic engineering, rather than expertise limited to a single discipline.
  • Experience with wireline, well intervention or related downhole tool technologies.
  • Demonstrable involvement in product development, from design and prototyping through testing and deployment.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor or equivalent.
  • Understanding of electro-mechanical systems, including sensors, actuators, power transmission and signal integrity.
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing methods and qualification testing relevant to demanding downhole environments.
  • A practical, hands-on engineering approach, including a willingness to participate in assembly, testing and troubleshooting.

Desirable

  • Experience developing technologies for plug and abandonment (P&A) operations.
  • Exposure to electro-chemical technologies or innovative downhole intervention systems.
  • Experience supporting field trials, tool qualification and operational deployment.
  • Familiarity with supplier management and manufacturing processes for specialist downhole equipment.
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams and international projects.

The Ideal Candidate We are particularly interested in engineers who combine strong technical design capability with practical product development experience. You should be comfortable moving between detailed engineering work, technical problem-solving and hands-on testing. This is not a purely desk-based design position; the successful candidate will enjoy seeing their designs built, tested, improved and deployed in real operating environments. You will be self-motivated, collaborative and comfortable taking ownership of technical challenges while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and reliability. Location & Relocation The preferred location is Stavanger, Norway, where the engineering team and hiring manager are based. Candidates already based in Norway will be prioritised, although suitably qualified engineers from the UK and other international markets will also be considered. For candidates relocating to Norway, the employer can provide support with the relevant visa and work permit application process. The role is predominantly office-based to support close collaboration with the engineering team and hands-on development activities. Some home-working flexibility is available, but fully remote working is not an option. Salary & Benefits

  • Indicative salary of NOK 1,000,000+, with flexibility for candidates bringing particularly relevant experience.
  • 25 days' annual leave.
  • Competitive pension arrangements.
  • Private health insurance.
  • Access to an on-site gym.
  • Support with visa and work permit applications where required.
  • Opportunity to work on innovative technology with international applications.

The business is looking to appoint as soon as possible, although candidates with notice periods of up to approximately three months can be accommodated.
