Early Childhood Education Teacher, Daycare Aurinkokello, North Sámi-speaking group, Keski-Pasila

We are looking for an Early Childhood Education Teacher for Aurinkokellos North Sámi-speaking group!

A wonderful new daycare centre, Aurinkokello, has been completed in Keski-Pasila, and operations began in August 2025. Early childhood education and pre-primary education services are being introduced gradually in the new unit. The position can also be performed on a part-time basis.

Suotnjarat is a sibling group for children aged 2-6 with a teacher and a carer working as a team. The group follows both the Helsinki Early Childhood Education Plan and the Sámi Early Childhood Education Plan. The goal of Sámi-language early childhood education is to support the childs growth into an independent, responsible, and social individual, as well as to foster the development of their language skills.

A childs proficiency in both languages becomes strong when they follow the immersion path throughout their entire educational journey up to the end of basic education. The group collaborates regularly with both a Finnish-language pre-primary education group and the Sámi class at Pasila Comprehensive School, providing pre-primary-aged children with opportunities to meet and engage in shared activities with children from other pre-primary groups.

Aurinkokello operates in the same building as Pasila Comprehensive School, enabling excellent cooperation along the childs educational path and the natural shared use of facilities. The daycare centre is very easy to reach, with excellent tram, bus, train and cycling connections.

We hope that your work demonstrates strong basic pedagogical skills in everyday practice and a sensitive approach to meeting children. We expect you to understand the importance of play in a childs development and learning. You recognize that play is part of the adults responsibilities, you are a playful adult, and you make use of playfulness in various everyday situations. The facilities and learning materials at Aurinkokello are designed to invite play, so we expect you, as an adult, to take responsibility for continuously shaping and developing the play environment.

As an Early Childhood Education Teacher, you will be responsible for building the operational culture and learning environment of your child group, as well as planning, implementing, developing, and evaluating pedagogical activities. You will also support each childs individual learning in accordance with the Helsinki Early Childhood Education and Pre-primary Education Curriculum, the units operational plan, and the childs individual early childhood education plan.

Qualification requirements:

We require that you hold the qualification required under the Finnish Early Childhood Education and Care Act (540/2018), or, in accordance with the transitional provision (Section 75), a Bachelor's degree in Education qualifying you as an early childhood education teacher, a relevant University of Applied Sciences degree, or a corresponding former college-level qualification, such as a kindergarten teacher or social educator qualification (Act 272/2005 and Decree 608/2005). Eligibility may also be demonstrated through a recognition decision issued by the Finnish National Agency for Education, confirming that your foreign qualification provides eligibility for the position.

The main working language of the position is North Sámi. Good spoken proficiency in North Sámi is required. In addition, applicants must have good spoken and written proficiency in either Finnish, Swedish, or English. Proficiency in Finnish is considered an asset. In the absence of qualified applicants, candidates with developing North Sámi language skills will also be considered.

A person hired must submit an extract from the criminal record as referred to in the Act on Checking the Criminal Background of Persons Working with Children (504/2002).

Proof that you do not have respiratory tuberculosis (Section 55 of the Communicable Diseases Act).
