What you'll do

Direct your first paid commercial with GowReads! Are you a recent film school graduate with a creative eye, a passion for storytelling, and a dream of directing your first commercial? GowReads is looking for an emerging filmmaker to direct a short, 30–60 second brand commercial. GowReads is a Stockholm-based children's STEAM and sports education company offering robotics, coding, book publishing, gymnastics, camps, and after-school clubs. We help children build real-world skills in a happy and safe environment. We're looking for someone who can turn a simple idea into a memorable film: something funny, warm, authentic, and full of personality. This is a one-off paid project offering creative ownership, professional experience, and a finished commercial you can proudly include in your showreel. About the project We want to create a short brand ad inspired by the best Nordic advertising: one clear idea, beautifully executed, with humour and heart. The commercial will be shared on LinkedIn, Instagram, and our website to reach parents, schools, and families. We'll share a creative brief and reference ads with shortlisted candidates. We also want to hear your ideas and see how you would bring the GowReads story to life. What you'll do

  • Develop a creative treatment based on our brief.
  • Help shape the concept and visual direction of the commercial.
  • Plan the shot list and collaborate with our team on the shoot.
  • Direct the shoot, including working with children on set.
  • Deliver the final edit yourself or collaborate with an editor or cinematographer.
  • Prepare versions for different platforms, including widescreen (16:9) and vertical (9:16), with subtitles.

What we're looking for

  • A recent graduate or final-year student from a Swedish film school or film programme.
  • A showreel or portfolio featuring at least one short film, commercial, or music video.
  • A strong sense of humour, warmth, and visual storytelling.
  • Comfort and patience when working with children.
  • Good communication, organisation, and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Fluent English and Swedish.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Your own camera, lighting, or sound equipment.
  • Experience with Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro.
  • A small crew or creative collaborators you regularly work with.
  • Experience creating brand, education, or family-oriented content.

- What we offer

  • A paid, fixed-fee project, with compensation agreed upfront.
  • Creative input into the concept and final film.
  • A directing credit on the finished commercial.
  • Permission to showcase the finished work in your portfolio and showreel, subject to agreed usage terms.
  • Support with locations, talent coordination, parental consent, and logistics.
  • The opportunity to have your work featured across GowReads' digital channels.

We value fresh perspectives and creative ambition. You don't need years of industry experience. We want to see your ideas, your storytelling instincts, and your potential. How to apply Send us your showreel or portfolio link and a short note explaining how you would approach a funny, heartfelt commercial for children's education. A few sentences are enough. We're interested in how you think creatively, not just your previous experience. Apply through LinkedIn or email: gowthami@gowreads.com We welcome applications from filmmakers of all backgrounds who are excited to tell meaningful stories.
