Director of Marketing
Mercive is a digital commerce consultancy in rapid growth, scaling our brand partnerships to help define the next era of commerce. We are looking for a Director of Marketing to lead and grow our marketing department, with responsibility for strategy, new business, people and P&L.
About Mercive
We work with brands ranging from high-growth challengers to established international brands where ecommerce is a strategic driver of growth. Our offering covers technology, experience, design, operations and marketing, from strategy to implementation. Our marketing department turns our clients' commerce setup into growth and we expect to double the department next year.
The role
You will lead Mercive's marketing consultancy: a team of six specialists today across paid social, paid search, CRM and SEO, working on growth for our clients in competitive categories. The mandate is broad. You set the strategy, win the business, lead the people and own the numbers.
The department does not stand alone. Our clients come to Mercive for technology, experience and operations as well as marketing. Part of the role is to connect those offerings so that a client's growth plan, Shopify setup and daily operations are advised as one. You will define what the department should look like in two years, build the plan to get there and double the department in 2027.
Responsibilities
Strategy
- Set the strategy for the marketing department: offering, positioning, ways of working and how growth work is priced and packaged.
- Define how Mercive creates growth across paid social, paid search, CRM and SEO, keeping it current as channels, measurement and AI change what works.
- Connect the marketing offering to technology, experience and operations so that marketing, platform and operations are advised as one plan.
Clients and new business
- Lead pitches and proposals for marketing engagements, for new clients and across Mercive's existing client base.
- Act as the senior advisor on growth for the brands we work with: understand their business, challenge their plans and tie marketing investment to commercial results.
- Build and maintain the department's pipeline together with Mercive's leadership team.
Leadership
- Lead and develop the current team of six, with clear roles, priorities and standards for advice and delivery.
- Define the future team and hire it: roles, seniority and sequence for doubling the department in 2027.
- Build a consultancy culture in the department: senior advice, measurable outcomes and quality in every deliverable.
P&L
- Own the department's P&L: revenue, margin, pricing, utilisation and forecasting.
- Plan capacity against pipeline and report on the department's performance.
Who you are
You have strong business acumen and a clear view of what drives growth in the new digital era. You can lead a conversation with a founder, CMO or ecommerce director about their business. You understand the importance of combining business and digital commerce in the advice you give. We expect that you:
- Have led a marketing or performance team in an agency, consultancy or brand, with responsibility for results and budget.
- Know paid social, paid search, CRM and SEO well enough to set direction for specialists and judge the quality of their work, without needing to run the campaigns yourself.
- Have pitched and won business and are comfortable as the senior face of a proposal.
- Have owned or co-owned a P&L and can read a department's economics.
- Have built or grown a team and can describe how you would define the next one.
- Understand commerce and how marketing, platform and operations depend on each other.
- Work fluently in Danish and English.
What we offer
- A director role with a real mandate: the department's strategy, team, clients and P&L are yours.
- The rest of Mercive behind you across technology, experience, design and operations, so that your advice is backed by the ability to implement it.
- Clients among Nordic fashion and lifestyle brands, most of them on Shopify.
- A consultancy of around 30 people with a short distance from decision to action and a leadership team who are close to the work.
- Salary and terms that match the responsibility.
Practical
- The role is based at our office at Strandgade 56 in Copenhagen. The preferred start date is 4 January 2027. We review applications on an ongoing basis and close the position when we have found the right person. Send your CV and a cover letter explaining why you are the right fit.
