What you'll do

Aalborg University seeks a Data Scientist to help establish Digital Heart, a cardiovascular data and AI research infrastructure developed with Aalborg University Hospital and other hospital partners. The position is a full-time technical and administrative staff position (TAP), planned for 3.5 years, with a possible extension, based at Aalborg University. The position is available from 1 November 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. You will collect and organise clinical data—including echocardiography, cardiac MRI, CT, ECG and electronic patient records—within a secure Trusted Research Environment (TRE). Your work will provide the foundation for cardiovascular research and AI development. Your responsibilities: Working closely with clinicians, hospital IT teams, researchers and our data manager, you will: - Coordinate clinical data extraction and secure transfer from participating hospitals. - Develop and maintain workflows for importing, processing and linking imaging, biosignal and patient record data. - Establish structured research datasets, databases and metadata documentation. - Implement data quality checks and approved procedures for pseudonymisation and secure data handling. - Deploy existing analysis and AI tools and support researchers in using the platform. Your qualifications: You hold a relevant master’s degree in data science, computer science, biomedical engineering, health informatics or a related field, or have equivalent experience. We are looking for: - Strong Python and SQL skills and experience developing reliable data pipelines. - Experience integrating complex datasets, preferably from clinical or hospital systems. - A systematic approach to data quality, documentation and sensitive data. - The ability to work independently and collaborate with clinical and technical colleagues. Experience with DICOM/PACS, electronic patient records, secure research environments or container technologies is an advantage.
