What you'll do

JD: Commercial/Market Analyst - Dry Bulk Industry: Maritime Operations / Vessel Management Systems / Bunker Trading Location: Athens, Greece or relocation to Athens, Greece. About the company: The company is a fully integrated shipping and trading group with a global footprint, operating from offices in Greece and Cyprus. It is an international player in the maritime and dry bulk industry, running its own fleet alongside a broad network of shipping and trading relationships across multiple regions. Built on decades-long shipping expertise, the business works with shipowners, charterers and maritime service providers worldwide. It owns and commercially manages a diversified dry bulk fleet from Handysize to Capesize, provides time charter, voyage and operational solutions across the world's major dry bulk trades, moves in excess of 19 million metric tons of cargo annually, operates 80+ vessels globally and concludes more than 300 cargo fixtures a year. The Role: We are looking for a candidate who can read the global dry bulk market, see where the next cargoes, trade lanes and accounts will come from, and turn that into new commercial ground for The Company. This is not an operational desk-chartering role. Think of it as the commercial compass for the chartering team: you combine market analysis with a hunter's instinct, mapping where the market is heading, building a portfolio of accounts and trade lanes, and pointing the desk toward the opportunities worth pursuing next. You identify cargo owners, charterers and operators outside the company's current network, open those relationships, then hand them to the chartering desk to develop into fixtures while you move on to the next opportunity. Key Responsibilities:

  • Map and analyze global dry bulk markets by segment and region - supply/demand, trade flows, rate dynamics - to build a forward view of where demand and opportunity are heading.
  • Monitor competitors and peers (their accounts, trade lanes and client relationships) to spot gaps and openings the company is not yet capturing.
  • Translate market intelligence into clear commercial direction for the chartering desk: which trade lanes, segments and accounts to pursue next.
  • Identify and open new accounts (cargo owners, charterers, shipowners, operators, brokers) that fall outside the current network, and hand them over for execution and ongoing development.
  • Build and grow a portfolio of accounts and trade lanes you can bring to the business.
  • Represent The Company at industry conferences, chartering events and trade gatherings.
  • Work closely with chartering and operations on smooth handover and alignment on target segments.
  • Report on market coverage, pipeline and new-account performance to the CEO / commercial leadership.

What We're Looking For:

  • A dry bulk background - as a market/commercial analyst, chartering broker, chartering manager, or commercial/BD professional - with a real understanding of how a fixture comes together and the ability to speak credibly with owners, charterers and brokers.
  • Strong analytical ability: you can read supply/demand, trade flows and market trends and turn them into a concrete commercial recommendation, not just report numbers.
  • A track record of either opening new markets, accounts or trade lanes from scratch, or producing market intelligence that directly shaped commercial decisions.
  • Comfortable working with a global scope across multiple regions and cultures; an existing network in shipping, chartering or commodity trading is a significant advantage.
  • Commercial and analytical background is a strong plus - e.g. commodity trading, market or trade-flow analysis, or a similar client-facing analytical role.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with fluent English; additional languages relevant to shipping markets are a plus.
  • Self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity and building a function - process, tools and targets - largely from the ground up.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to meet counterparties and attend industry events.

What We Offer:

  • A high-visibility role reporting directly into senior leadership, with real influence over which markets and accounts the company pursues next.
  • The opportunity to shape a new function within a growing maritime group, with room to grow into a team-leading role as the pipeline develops.
  • Based in Athens, Greece, with exposure to The Company's international operations.
  • Compensation to be discussed based on experience (base + performance-linked incentive structure).

If you want to shape a new commercial function from the ground up and influence where a global dry bulk player goes next, send us your CV - we'd love to hear from you!
